Unable to Delete Downloads in Game Launcher - Custom Content

New to this forum so I do hope I have posted this topic in the correct section.
Also fairly new to Sims 3 so I apologize if some find this question a little stupid, I am still learning.
I have downloaded content using the sims 3 launcher downloaded from sims resources website.
The items appear in the downloads section in the Launcher as a cardboard box, with no picture.
I can click and install them.
However I cannot delete them from the downloads section once installed.
Therefore my downloads section is slowly filling up with all the items that have a box as its icon. 
I am not wanting to delete item permanently just delete and remove from the Launcher so it does not get cluttered and full.
I have spent hours searching on line for troubleshooting tips and I have not been able to figure out how to delete these items or if I am doing something incorrectly.  I have so far just been letting the launcher download etc.
These files are Sims3Pack files not packages, so not sure if this makes any difference.
I hope someone with lots of experience can help me fix this issue.

Downloaded files can easily be deleted.

1. Go to your downloads folder:
C:\Users\<Username>\Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Downloads
2. Either delete the files or move the files to a temporary folder on the desktop or some other folder outside of the Sims 3 folder.

It's also easy to uninstall items that have been installed.

1. Open the launcher, click the Installed Content tab.
2. Checkmark items that you don't want installed anymore.
3. Click the Uninstall button.

I am aware of how to delete items how you have described, which is not what I am wanting to do.
These methods will remove the content that has just been downloaded and installed to the launcher.
Reinstalling these items does not fix the issue as they still appear as a box icon and cannot be deleted or removed from the Launcher so the problem occurs again.

I Only want to delete these items from the Downloads section of the Launcher.
I tick and click delete and it will not delete the item so it is causing clutter in the game launcher downloads.
This only happens to the items that have the box icon, these cannot be deleted from the launcher unless its totally removed from Folders etc.
I am wanting to find out if anyone knows how to remove these items from the launcher only, without losing the content, as I have used a lot of my downloads usage collecting these items and unfortunately for me, much of the custom content ends up in this form in the launcher.

That is actually how you delete files/items from the launcher. (Delete the files from the Sims 3/downloads folder.)

I've had files that show up as boxes recently and that is how I removed them from the launcher. When files show up as boxes in the downloads tab that means there is something wrong with the file and cannot be used.

If you don't want to delete the files, then move the files to a temporary folder on your desktop or another folder for safe keeping.

I understand what you are saying and I know how to remove custom content completely via the downloads folder and also how to save/back up custom content etc like you mentioned. Luckily my boxed items have actually installed to the Launcher and into the game okay so there does not seem to be anything wrong with the downloads other than in the Launcher. 
I guess I will leave them there as cardboard boxes for now.

The boxes I had in my downloads and installed tabs of the launcher have been deleted. So I'm confused why they aren't deleting for you.
