How do I get my Sims to the launcher then the Exchange?

Just got Sims 3 and loving it.  But I'm confused. How do I get my created Sims from the game into the launcher so I can upload them to the exchange/use them as my avatar on the Sims 3 site?  All I see on the launcher are my screenshots.
