Sims 3 Downloadable Version
« on: July 27, 2013, 11:13:17 PM »
Hi. Okay, so I am thinking of purchasing the Sims 3 downloadable version because I don't have the patience to wait for shipping, and I can't afford to pay that high of a cost for a hard copy. Anywho, I just had a quick question--does the downloadable version require internet connection each time you start and play the game, or only for the initial installation?
Thanks!

P.S. I have been searching the internet for an answer to this... but haven't come up with anything. Any help would be great  :D

There isn't actually much difference between the price of physical or download. Well, not in the UK anyway. For me it is usually cheaper to buy physical rather than buy the download from Origin, although there are various websites that will also sell download codes to redeem at origin which are cheaper than Origin itself.

Once you download the game it is installed onto your computer and you can play it at any time, you don't even need Origin to be open when you play it. Sims 3 doesn't require internet to play, although there are additional features available if you are connected.

I might as well drop my question in here.
I bought my copy from Humble Bundle, so it's the Starter Pack (Base Game + Late Night + High End Loft Stuff). Is the downloadable version compatible with CD versions of EPs and SPs? If so, do I have to install such versions from CD or register them in TheSims3.com and thus download from Origin? Does anyone have any experience? I'm curious, because here in Finland you find some EPs and SPs really cheap in some bargain boxes, like 5€ - 15€. And even with regular prices the CD versions are usually cheaper than the downloadable versions, for that matter.

Also, my girlfriend has bought some EPs (all are on CDs), would I be able to install and use them on my PC, too? I'm not sure if she's registered all or any of them, and I can't ask her right now :D

If I were you I would decide to use one or the other, and not mix games from DVD disks with downloaded games. Also, if possible, it's a good idea to install them in the release order.

I own all Expansions and three are Digital, the rest Physical including the Base Game. I also have a mixed Stuff Pack collection but something like two of each. I don't experience any issues that I know of caused by mixed forms.

Okay, then you should consider yourself lucky. I know this isn't always the case though. Besides, I feel that it's somehow safer to own the physical DVDs, instead of relying on a download service that could be interrupted and/or stopped any minute. I also think that you can install the game on any number of computers if you own the DVDs, but with downloaded games there is a limitation to 3-5 or something like that, but I'm not sure about this.
