Every time I save game, it crashes and closes down

I can't play my game, for every time I try to save it, it closes down and says it has stopped working and I lose everything I did in between loading up the game and trying to save.

It's doing it every single time and I can't play because of it! Just spent a lot of money buying the game and expansions, worked fine up until about 4 days ago, I think when the update came out on steam.

Welcome to the Forum!   Are you doing any building?  Do you have Seasons?

Thank you. Yes, I have Seasons installed. It's currently summer and there are no festivals on.

There are just two humans and two cats on the whole of the map as I've only recently started playing with Seasons and Supernatural, which I bought in the sale.

I made a house and moved those 4 characters in, and then I saved and quit. Now I'm wanting to build a house opposite for my next family; however, I can't progress any further in the game as it boots me off as soon as I click save and anything I've done between loading the game up and clicking save is lost.

I'm running it on max settings through Steam, on a AMD quad core processor, with 4gb of RAM, GTX 560 ti card, 3gb of memory using Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and directX version 11, with near on a tb of hard drive space.

As I say, it worked fine up until a few days ago, I think when a nearly 1 gb update was released on Steam.

There is a problem in the game that came from a patch or two ago that could be your exact issue.   

One -  Foundations have been causing random crashes for people.  Try building without a foundation.

Two - You have rain turned on and the lot you're trying to build on has a rain puddle that the game didn't clear properly.  You don't see it but it's there and that's the crash. 
A solution for this would be to build the house and place the family.  Save both to the household bin and then delete the current lot you're working on.  Replace with the family/house you just saved and try again.

Well, the lot I'm trying to do is empty. Could I not delete it now and replace or do you mean the first house and people I made?

Yes, I have rain on and it's currently raining when I switch the game on. All through me trying to play and save, there are puddles on the lot I want to build on.

Also would you recommend switching rain off to save it happening again (if it turns out to be the cause) ?

Ok I've just gone on, saved my family and house to the clipboard, deleted both lots and then switched off rain. I then placed the house and family back on their lot and put some walls up on the lot I was trying to build on before and would you know, it's working again! Saved it several times and no crash.

I will leave rain switched off for if/when they choose to patch it, it's no huge loss to Seasons!

I have the problem that ricalynn described - can't save after building - but I just discovered today that if I build, then go into live mode and play a little bit, then save, it saves just fine (without crashing) - so maybe you could try that?

I know this thread is a little old but I found a possible help for the problem and thought I would add it here.
I was in game looking through the cheats and notice one I didn't know about. removeallpuddles It removes all puddles from the game. Using this cheat before starting to build seems to help with the problem.

I was in game looking through the cheats and notice one I didn't know about. removeallpuddles It removes all puddles from the game. Using this cheat before starting to build seems to help with the problem.

Does this cheat require the installation of a mod?  There's some question about that on another thread.
