Help! Super Athlete keeps losing games
« on: July 19, 2013, 03:07:47 PM »
I am playing Limited Edition Islands game (I think I have all of the expansion packs loaded). Father Sim graduated university with athletic degree, achieved lifetime wish of super star athlete, was a level 7 martial artist, always went to work, always in good mood, friends with all coworkers, and yet HE NEVER WON A GAME in the stadium. The losses were always a major loss, too, like 1-15. I thought maybe it was a glitch in the university game, so I made sure that the athlete's son, who also wanted to pursue the same lifetime wish as his father, did not attend university. The son has maxed out his athletic skill, is a level 6 martial artist, is Best Friends with all of his coworkers, always arrives to work and to games early in 100% mood (thanks to the moodlet increasing vehicle), and his very first (and only) sports game? BIG LOSS!!! HOW do I get this Sim to win games? Obviously his skill, mood, and work experience and relationships are NOT a factor. THANKS!

Forgot to add that when the Sim goes to work, he always selects "Prepare for Game" option. He also has the "Marathon Runner" achievement, and close to completing the Body Builder and Fitness Nut skill challenges.

kf4eko ,

I think this may simply be a run of bad luck.  I have had this with sparring in martial arts.  My sim has super maxed martial arts and yet has lost at least eight consecutive matches.  Think of it as a toss of a coin, you toss the coin and it turns up heads, what is the chance of getting a head on the second toss, third toss.......etc.  Each time, no matter how often you toss, the chance is 50/50.  So, even though your chance of win/lose may be 60/40 or whatever the skills gain works out at, each game still has the same chance of 60/40.  Or, think of families, I am one of seven girls, my father wanted a son:)  That's seven times he tossed the coin, and, seven times he lost!

“In this world, there is nothing softer or thinner than water. But to compel the hard and unyielding, it has no equal. That the weak overcomes the strong, that the hard gives way to the gentle -- this everyone knows. Yet no one asks accordingly.”

kf4eko, do you have any mods installed?  With mods there's always a remote chance of something strange happening, especially if they're not up to date.

Have you tried playing a brand new family in a brand new town to see if pro athletes still lose every game?  You could try playing a pre-made townie who is already several levels in to the athletic career.  I think there's also a way to use testingcheats and the mailbox to set a sim's career level.  Personally I'd create eight test sims with a variety of traits (at least one lucky and one unlucky), have them all join the superstar athlete career, then play them normally until they start playing other teams.  If every athlete loses every game in every file that's not bad luck, that's something gone wrong.  If it's only the one family where they always lose, it's possible there's something quirky with the save file (I've seen such strange bugs and glitches in long running games).
