I have a married couple & they have both found a piece of map can they be put together or does it have to be found by 1 sim?

I have a married couple & they have both found a piece of map can they be put together or does it have to be found by 1 sim?

It has to be one Sim.  My couple both had map pieces but since they couldn't swap or share them it took the one with the most to acquire the last piece.  Sadly, once she got it, (something like 25 bottles later!), the message was there were no more islands to be discovered with this map.  I still haven't opened two islands so not sure how to get those last two.
