Computer freeze when attempting to "Move in" to houseboat
« on: June 28, 2013, 07:19:21 PM »
Each time I select a family from the bin, single or group, and select move household in, my game freezes immediately I click "Start playing with this family."  Has anyone else had this problem?  Any ideas to solve it?

PS:  I have ambitions, WA, Pets and ST only, plus OLS pack.  And, of course IP!

Update.  This is not a complete crash, the tick and return to previous screen check points grey out as normal, but the loading icon never appears.  I have tried downgrading all the graphics options to minimum, but, this does not help.  I have also tried using windows mode to no avail.

Please, if anyone has any ideas, I really would appreciate some help.  After waiting so long after ordering this, and reading how everyone else is able to play, I'm really disappointed.  My graphics card is reasonably new and is approved for this game and I have ample available memory and storage.

This happened to me.  I cleared all my caches, restarted the computer.  Eventually it let me do it without an issue.

This is actually an old problem from University and possibly before that.  And just know you're not the only one.  If you're still having trouble after all that - let me know and I'll go scouring the old help threads to see if anyone found a different solution from the officials.

Also perhaps disable any CC or mods that you've got to see if that make a difference.

Thank you Ricalynn,

I thought of that myself, but, I had already turned off the computer when I did.  It was great though, this morning, to see confirmation of the idea.  It has worked.  Thank you again, and thanks to whoever came up with the factory reset solution.

By the way,it is working with all my graphics settings as default, which is even better.  The game looks horrible with all settings on minimum!

UPDATE:

So annoying, I played a "bin" family for a while then decided that I would prefer to create and play my own family creation.  Sadly, I could not do this as the same problem occured.  I tried emptying my caches and dbbackup then restarting my computer, but, this did not help.

I had to do another factory reset.

This simply will not do if I have to do a reset everytime I want to start a new family.

I can, I find, enter an existing game.  Go to edit town and place a family into a lot, then switch to this household.  However, this is not a satisfactory solution as I like to challenge myself with timed games and of course, switching households does not reset the clock.

There has to be a better solution, something I am missing.

I'm going to offer the solution of bypassing your launcher and deleting the .tmp files in the DCCache (only the .tmp files!).  See if this helps.

My path for bypassing the launcher is: Computer > Program Files (x86) > Electronic Arts (Origin if you only download) > The Sims 3 Island Paradise > Game > Bin and then I just make a shortcut to the TS3EP10.exe file.    This will go directly into the game without ever seeing the launcher.

This problem is caused by having NRASS error trap installed in your game. I know the mod says that its compatible with 1.55, but that is for the patch that came out before the EP, There's a thread over there about it. Strip your mods, restart your game. I

Thank you, Tummy Tuck, any offers of help are much appreciated.  However, my fault, I ought to have said in the first place, I don't have any mods or cc.  But, thanks again.

Ricalynn,

This sounds very plausible.  I remember having to bypass my launcher a couple of years back to get around some bug or other, I can't remember what it was though.

I'm copying your very much appreciated instructions to my note pad immediately I have finished this.  It's pretty late now, but, I look forward to giving it a try tomorrow.  Thank you for your tiime and help.

I have been wondering too, about the Superpatch.  I seem to remember using it to fix a bug a goodly time back.  But, I can't remember what I had to do, or where I found it.  Does this mean anything to you?

Yes I remember. There is a link to the superpatch on the Patch 1.55 thread that links to SimsVIP's link.  I know it's convoluted a little.  I'm not sure if that will help with this but if you try it and it works, just let me know.  I'd love to be able to give this advice to others.

OK, I made the bypass link and have started (and abandoned) three new games using three different bin families without any problem.

For me, this is a good enough fix.  I am sure I remember the superpatcch needing complete re-install and about 2 hours of download time, so I won't bother unless the problem occurs again while using the current fix.

If anyone else needs to try this, I selected "continue without connecting"  when prompted to connect to the internet, then used "options" to connect once my family were in their new home.

Thanks for your help.
