Places to find Minor Pets?

My sim wants to be a zoologist, so I've been trying to find wild creatures. However, try as I might, I can't find a single thing! I see deer and raccoons, and even the occasional wild horse, but no minor pets. Where can I look? I have found pets before, but in another game.

It depends which world you are playing.

However, they show up in whichever world you are playing if you have the collection helper.  I would say this is essential for the zoologist ltw.
