Can't snap shafts and elevators together on grid slots
« on: October 05, 2012, 04:11:37 PM »
I'm altering an imported house and am adding an elevator and shaft to one corner of the building.  I've discovered that whereas the the elevator snaps to the edges of the grid slot,  the shaft will only snap to the middles of the grid slots e.g a corner ends up in the middle of a grid slot rather than aligned with the edges).  I've tried the moveobjects cheat and the DisableSnappingToslotsAlt cheat,  but neither seem to do anything.  The result is I can't align the elevator inside the shaft. I'm using Supernatural.  Any hints anyone ?  Thanks

Is there something that may be blocking the placement of the shaft? Have you used elevators before on other blocks? The shafts should sit easily on top of an elevator piece so that you can add the next shaft or elevator piece on top so that the three (or more) pieces make an aligned column. Is there some reason you don't want the elevator to stop at that particular floor? If it's unused space, could you just add elevator pieces instead of the shaft?
If all else fails, could you post a screenshot of where you are trying to place it.

No, nothing is blocking placement - I created a special tower extension to the building to put the shadt in.  I've even tried as an experiment setting up the shaft / elevator combo on a patch of empty land on my plot and its the same problem - the shaft snaps to the centre of the grid slots,  the elavator to the edges, and they won't align.  I get yellow  placement graphics (tather than the green for good and the red for bad) when I place the shaft initially - does this mean something?

Thanks

The yellow outline is usual with elevators... If I recall correctly, it indicates where the elevator piece is on the floor below. It sounds like some sort of glitch, as they should line up for placement. I've never had that problem occur, but I haven't built an elevator for some time.
Have you tried to build an elevator on a different lot or in a different save file. Doing that will determine if the problem is exclusive to that lot or save file or game wide. You said it was an imported house. Sometimes when building cheats are used and not turned off before saving, strange things can happen to the lot. I've never heard of this problem before but I guess there is a possibility that it is due to a cheat being used.

I'm also having the same problem but I found a way to fix it. I eventually got it to snap where I wanted it by slowly moving the mouse around until it snapped in place. Not much of a solution but at least it works.

I have that same problem, I've stuck to stairs and pre-made elevators in houses because it annoys me so much. The only way I got it to work was tilt the camera to the top of the elevator and try to move the mouse slowly to the middle of the squares. It took me ages to eventually snap it on the grid slots, but hey, it worked for me.
