Expansion pack NOOB
« on: April 30, 2013, 07:35:22 AM »
Gday all,
I recently purchased a lappy for my GF to play Sims 3 on.
She was loving it and quickly purchased some "stuff" packs and "expansions"

Stuff packs are great and life was good..........but then I installed the 1st expansion pack "late night".......

I cant seem to work out how to incorporate the new buildings and such from "late night".
She already has her SIM set up with a career in sunset valley and she wants to keep her house/career etc.

From what I can tell I need to edit the whole world or town, Try and build large lots with the terrible world editor to fit the buildings which most will end up in the middle of nowhere to which I cant even build a road to?

Surely this can't be right. What did I just pay $20 for? When I have to do all the work?
I thought once the expansion would install the base game would update and the new buildings would appear but as I know nothing about Sims I am just not sure :(

Apologies if this is a dumb post I just want to get her game working :)

Cheers

If you start a new game, buildings from installed expansion packs will be placed in the town, but they will not be placed in existing game files. If you want the new buildings closer to town, you could bulldoze some existing lots and then replace them with the new ones.

When you have a lot of expansion packs installed, I don't think it puts all the EP specific lots in a new game file. Someone else may have to confirm that, but you can always bulldoze something so you have room for the buildings you want to place. Of course, the new towns that come with each expansion, will have all the lots specific to that EP.

It becomes a challenge getting all of the expansion pack buildings into the other towns simply because there are now so many of them.  Bridgeport, the town in Late Night, is probably the hardest because the buildings are so much different from any other town.  It will come down to choosing which lots you want the most and using Edit Town to get them placed in your town.  There are some that will show up automatically in a new game file, as Twinmum said.  For example, the buildings from Ambitions almost always are already in place when you start a new town.

Bridgeport buildings are never placed automatically in other towns, because it is the only town designated as a "city", the others are designated as "towns" (i.e; residential).

However, some of Bridgeport's venues can fit easily into Sunset Valley and other towns (The Grind, Banzai Lounge, etc.) However, the high rises need a lot of space and are harder to fit.
