Digital Expansion Pack/Lost Original Sims 3 Disc

My wonderful husband lost my original Sims 3 disc.  I would like to still play, because I do get bored with Sims Medieval occasionally. 

If I purchase a digital expansion pack from Amazon would I then be able to play Sims 3 without a disc?

The expansion packs all require the base game in order to work.  I've never purchased an EP from Amazon, but I assume it's the same as buying them from Origin, which I have done.  My original game and several EPs were on disc, but lately I've been getting the digital version.  If you have the base game installed and purchase a digital EP you won't need a disc to play.

I hate losing discs but I wanted an expansion pack anyway.  I just bought Pirates and Nobles and I think I am going to buy Generations.
