How to paint portrait?

My sims have the option to paint portrait once. I didn't choose to but this option never appear again.
Is here any critieria before painting portrait?

When your Sim reaches level 5 in the Painting skill, the option to paint a Still Life will appear.  I believe it's level 6 or 7 for Portraits.  The Portrait option will always appear if there is at least one other Sim on the lot.  If your Sim lives alone, that could explain why the Portrait option doesn't appear.

I'm 99.99% sure it's 7. And yeah, I wish there was a good option for painting portraits. Like you know how the target sim comes along and "poses"? I hate how you have to change the angle of the view so that you are looking at a 90 degree angle to the sim (directly at their face), unless there's another way.

I've never had to change the angle to do a portrait.  If you're trying to get a portrait of a Sim by using the Still Life, then you have to fiddle with the angle of the camera.  But on the Portrait option, the target Sim comes to the easel to pose and it's set up perfectly.  Just press "C" to capture the image for your artist.

Maybe my Perfectionist trait in real life takes over at that time, but I never knew the angle automatically changed when doing a portrait. Hmmm, good to know, unless you're the complete opposite of me. I play with an overhead type view, what about you, Pam?

It varies for me.  Sometimes an overhead view, but sometimes I get down close so I can see gestures and facial expressions better.

Hmm, I'll have to test this on my game, cause I've never tried painting a portrait without actually bringing the angle way down.

Yeah, try it from overhead.  I'm sure the camera will automatically zoom in to capture the portrait.

Every time my Sims paint a portrait the angle doesn't come in right for me, I try to adjust and it's just weird (no overhead view) sometimes there will be an object in the way so I can't get the whole face.  Then when I get it adjusted the way I like, the Sim will move when I snap the shot and the portrait is a side view!    So yeah, I have trouble with portraits too.

I think the solution to that would be to have your Sim move to another spot and click Portrait again.  The camera gets level and sets up the Sim in the shot, but it can't control the surroundings that get in the way.
