Clean up game
« on: May 02, 2013, 02:04:22 PM »
I've seem to have a glitches in my game is there anyway to clean it up without losing anything?

Many thanks

I think I should have given you some more information really, sorry I'm a newbie to all this & the Sims world.

So I have Sims 3 on PC, I have a few expansion packs & a couple stuff kits cds. I have recently downloaded a couple of things from the exchange & I have a MOD installed, 'Overwatch'

The glitches I have are the following:
- It takes a long to load & save the game, not a big issue but giving as much info as I can.
- Sometimes it takes a long time to load the picture, like the furniture is there but it's grey with no detail, not often but sometimes.
- I have quite a big glitch that babies go missing. If I'm playing a particular household and the sim is pregnant & I go to edit town & switch house holds, when I go back to the first house the baby haas been born but is missing. No sign of it. It shows on family tree & the mood of the sim shows a baby was born, but that is all. Resetsim doesn't work & using the MOD to find missing sims didn't locate them either. (before downloads from Exchange)

- Now since Exchange downloads the above baby thing stills happens, but now if I play a household until the baby is born the mother leaves the hospital she looks like she's carrying a baby but it's invisible (this happens if a baby is adopted too, toddlers are ok though). But there are a lot of lines across the screen. I aged the baby up to toddler but it went all weird & alien like, since reading up on this I believe this could be down to the clothing that came from the exchange, would that make sense?

How can I check which items from exchange are the faulty ones & how can I delete them so they don't cause further problems?

How can I fix the original problem, babies going missing?

What are caches & how do I clean them up?

Any help greatly appreciated & if you could put it in laymans terms that would be great, think that you're talking to a complete noviceas that's what I am, a complete technophobe.

Many thanks again

Try cleaning out your caches

Clearing your cache may help with the first one. Here is a forum post that lets you know which ones are safe to delete. I'm attempting a legacy on my file and the load times are LOOONG. If it gets to be too much, you could try to move your family and house into a new save file. The bigger the file gets, the longer it takes to load everything. I've read several stories where people have moved their sims to a new neighbourhood to reduce load/save times. You can check out the Nraas Porter MOD, it lets you pretty much move everything in a couple clicks of your mouse.

The grey isn't a game issue. It's a computer issue. Your computer is just loading a bit slow. It's not a big deal, you can still use the objects when they are grey - the textures just haven't loaded. Happens to my Legacy File when I use map view and jump back to the house really quick.

Well, first. You need to test your CC . You need to take EVERYTHING out at once, and put it back one at a time, exiting and loading the game each time until something weird happens. With long load times, it's going to suck, believe me. I've done this. :/ You don't need to save each time.
I have heard of a program called Delphy's Dashboard which could help, but I haven't the faintest idea of how it works, so if you go that route you might have to do some searching yourself, unless another user here knows how to use it.
My suggestion after that would be to organize your mods folder into sub-folders. Organizing Custom Content
If you make a folder specifically for new items, and place new items in that folder ONLY, it should help you narrow down which items are causing problems.
This may be useful to you as well

Now once that is sorted out, time for the baby one. I haven't stumbled into this issue myself so I had to do some searching.
One fix I found said:

STEP 1: Finish any current life-time wishes. *You can skip this step.

STEP 2: Open the options menu, and click EDIT TOWN.

STEP 3: Select the family that lost the child.

STEP 4: When the stats of the house pop up, along with some options, choose EVICT.
You can evict them with their house so you do not need to rebuild, or redecorate. (The game will warn that you will lose any promised wishes.)

STEP 5: Once evicted, your family will show up in a box in the upper left corner of the screen. Click on the box and choose to place the family (and their home) on an empty lot.

STEP 6: Set the family as your active household.

STEP 7: You should have your families child back. If this doesn't work, it's back to the drawing board..

I apologize for the length of this post, but I wanted to cover everything. GOOD LUCK!

Many many thanks. I hate the technical side but love the game. Sims addict already. I will go through all your instructions step by step. Thanks for the good luck wishes, I'm gonna need it.

I'll let you know how it goes.

Adding to all this - some of us run a batch file before the start of every game that may help. I can find the instructions for you if you'd like, it's basically a file that tells the computer to delete all those caches every time before you launch the game.
