Transferring files from Steam to Origin...
« on: April 21, 2013, 02:15:04 PM »
I am not sure whether this has been posted before or not.. but this has been most frustrating!  The base game, and 7 expansion packs are on Steam.  My daughter sparked my interest to play, and they had a sale.  Anyway, about 2 months ago, I noticed Origin had a great sale of up to 50% off.. so I got an exp pack and a stuff pack.  Little did I know that those would not work on Steam...   I have contacted Origin/EA and all they told me was to uninstall/reinstall the base game and or make sure I was up to date with the latest patch, even gave me a link to do so!  Hey at least they tried to help some?
So I am wondering if any of you have had this problem and have found a fix for it.
Luckily my daughter found online something about Sims 3 site and Origin linked together.  And we figured out that I had 2 Origin accounts and that I had purchased those 2 games on the newest Origin account, not the one linked to Sims 3 site.  So where we stand now is that the codes state they have already been used.   UGH...  either I see that or I see an error message that I do not have the base game installed lol   Okay, I hope someone can decipher this babble... >.<  Thanks for any and all help.

What I'm gathering from this is that you registered your Steam-bought games through thesims3.com, and then created an Origin account (not realizing you already had one from registering at thesims3.com) to buy the two new packs. Is this correct?

If so, you may be able to log in to Origin using your thesims3.com credentials and install your Steam-bought games from there, then log in to the "new" Origin account and install the two new packs from there. There's no way, as far as I know, to install the new packs into your Steam version, since Steam and Origin don't play nicely. Otherwise, you may need to contact EA/Origin support and ask if they'll transfer the games from the "new" account over to the account that already has your base game and other packs, and then install the whole shebang from your "old" account.

Make sense?

Yes, basically that is what happened.  I think a lot of my issues stem from having my laptop in the shop 3 times lol  I assumed I needed to re-download Origin.. so I did.. and that's how the new account was made.  I didn't know that Origin and Sims 3 site was linked or I wouldn't have done that.. nor was I thinking that I actually had an account already :)

I am in the process of installing all the games that I currently have through Origin.  (minus the ones I purchased)
