My Sim Died

About a week ago (in game time), one of my Sims died. Since then, both children have had birthdays, and one has even chosen his lifetime wish and started a career- in which he was actually promoted twice. I haven't played in about four days (real time), but when I opened it today, the Sim that died is back, and everything that was accomplished has been reset. I saved the game before I closed it- I ALWAYS do. Is there anything I can do to get back to where I was?

If you have Windows Backup running regularly, you may be able to roll back the save file. Check in Documents/Electronic Arts/Sims 3/Saves. WHen you find your save file, right-click on it and look for something like "previous versions". See if there's a modified date around the last time you played.
