Fairy Alchemy Bug?

I recently started a fresh file with a married fairy and werewolf.
The fairy learned alchemy and while researching alchemy, the file crashed several times.

Has any one else experienced this?

On further analysis, this may just be an issue with the fairy. I'm on Windows 8 64bit, which is notorious for causing all kinds of Sims 3 problems.
