Returned to Sims3 after a long (2-year?) break.  On a Mac, reloaded the base game and just 2 XPs (WA and Ambitions).  Fun getting a new Sim started on WA, and remembering all the old tricks from 2 years ago.  Anyway, he's done well, with our help, and he's finally finished all the tombs in France.

And he won't go home.  More accurately, he starts going home, and the screen changes to the 'transit' one with the scrolling game tips … and that's it.  Time passes, nothing happens.  Just the increasingly irritating music!

I've looked through the forum, and I see plenty of tips about 'stuck Sims' [been there, done that] but I can't find any mention of getting stuck 'in transit'.  Anyone been there, done that, got any suggestions for a 10-year+ Simmer?

You might have to go back to a previous save (or .backup if you save over the same filename). Have you tried this more than once? Does it happen every time? Do you have the most up-to-date game update?

Yes, all updated, from a semi-vanilla re-install with just 2 XPs.  That's what's really annoying me, especially when Baldrick Fayle has just 'cleaned up' in France.  And THAT took a week of trying to get the necessary adventures.

Been there before, done all that … but NEVER had a Sim stuck in transit, which is seriously annoying.

BTW - learned years ago about SAVE!!!!  This is a couple of experienced Simmers.  Just never been caught on this failure before.  Transits to Destinations take ages [10 minutes +] so perhaps its our Mac? Even got desperate and went to Pirates & Nobles, and that wouldn't even load!  Re-boot time, perhaps.

Now here's a puzzle and a half.  So I can't get my Sim home from France … that's the current topic.

HOWEVER … I have now tried to launch Pirates & Nobles, and the game won't load.  I wonder whether they are interfering with each other somewhere?  Does anyone here have both games loaded?

Of course, the fact that http://www.thesims3.com is broken as well doesn't help either!!

SUCCESS!!! Sold we his house in France, used "resetSim Name Name" and made the call to go home. The transit screen opened, first Game Tip … then the second … and then NOTHING for 25 minutes. Same Tip, the progress bar not even showing a bit of green. Then suddenly it started to move! A further 5-10 minutes and then, with bar only half-way filled, he was home.

These Adventure travel times are ridiculous, but at least we can play again.

That's good news, Slingsby.  Glad your patient waiting finally paid off.

As for Pirates and Nobles conflicting with Sims 3, it shouldn't.  I used to have both installed in my old computer and both worked just fine.  Well, fine aside from the usual collection of bugs and game glitches, of course.  :P

Thanks for that!

Not out of the woods yet, though.  Having got him home, spent a couple of days 'doing normal stuff' and then (after a save) sent him to Egypt.  Or not.  Same old story ... Starts the transit, 2 game tips and 2mm of green bar, and then nothing for 45 minutes.  Nothing.  Hard to do a hard shut-down, as no controls were available.

Just re-launching the game now, after a Mac re-boot and with all programs quit.  I'll transit in windowed-mode, so I can quit the App without hard-dumping the computer (I hate doing that!).

YESSSS ... Al Simhara in 17 minutes.  A record!!

Could be overload on the graphics card?  Or just having 2 Mb RAM.

Slingsby,

17 minutes!  Way too long.

This certainly could be a graphics card or memory problem.

Some time ago, someone here (sorry, I have forgotten who) sent me the link below.

http://simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:TS3_System_Requirements

It cost me a new graphics card, but, was well worth it.

Cheers, Wei.  I'm not going to start messing around with the iMac to fix that, though.  That's why I bought a massively expensive Alienware PC with quad liquid-cooled graphics cards ... That I don't use any more!

I'll live with the issue.  Generally the game runs fine on the Mac with wherever graphics it has, and 2 Mb RAM.
