Time outside of University + Other Characters

Okay, a few questions.

1. Does time outside of University elapse while in university? I left two teens with a parent a home. Will they still be teens or will they be 2 weeks (2 terms) older when I return?

2. Can I send a sim to university and not actively play it? Like can I choose to stay and play as the parent, or do I have to go to university if I send a sim there? Is there anyway to send a sim off and see them later?

1. No. It's like in WA worlds, where time is frozen until you come back.

2. Again, no--it's really similar to travel, in that you follow the University sim. There aren't any options to remain with the "home" family.
