Suggestions for a Nectary Garden
« on: March 17, 2013, 12:05:09 PM »
I am having fun creating gardens  ;D .  Since I have a fairy couple who have grown all of the plants that they can (outside of towns I don't have) I would like to work on some that are more specific type ones, such as a Nectary Garden or Cook's Garden for those who don't want the hassle in growing all of the needed plants but want perfect ones to use in recipes.

So, suggestions on plants for a Nectary Garden.   I know that I will need all of the following:

grapes from France
Watermelon
regular Grape
Flame Fruit
Life Plant
In trees:
Pomelo
Plum
Ponegranate
Lime
Apple
Cherry

Are there any other fruits needed?

For the setup, would you prefer to have just the plants arranged in a nice design of just the plants, or one with a pond, a small patio area with some flowers and trees that would have other plants around them, onions, garlic, and such.  Not for the nectar, just to give some for other uses; such as those who cook and would like to have some perfect veggies.

All of my plants are at perfect and saved in a town that I am starting to make my garden town  :D Riverview has some nice 30 x 40 lots that I can make different types of gardens. And even smaller ones if I just focus on a specifc type; such as those for a Nectar Garden.

The plants in this one would be from WA and the base game.
Also thinking of finding out what is  needed for all of the recipe in cooking and make a Cook's Garden.  Eggplant, Steakplant, Cheeseplant and others.

Only thing you could add for the nectar garden is banana and lemon. But if you don't have Showtime or the Al Fresco market, you can't use them anyway. No biggie since they both are low value fruits.

As for a cook's garden, I use everything, so that's a little harder. I grow everything in a greenhouse now with trees in the back, bushes next (tomato, etc.) and vines after that. There are a lot more vines than anything else. The shrubs (from Supernatural) have their own small row along with the spillover vines. It's not really pretty, but it is functional. I'm more interested in cutting down the time he spends harvesting.

Purple Eggplant from the Al Fresco Street Market can be used in nectar making as well.

I think this is a great idea! As far as set-up, I would think that for a nectar garden it would be nice to have a patio area as you mentioned with tables for serving nectar and chairs. I also think if you are going to make a nectar garden it would be nice to include a nectar maker and some nectar racks as well.

As far as a cook's garden, that is a great idea too. I think the only things you can't grow to use in cooking are fish and honey. I think it would be nice then to have beehives and a fish pond stocked with salmon, trout, and other popular eating fish at this lot, and maybe some grills set up and picnic tables.

Edit: I was wrong, you can't grow links either. And there's nothing you can really do about that. So no hot dogs, I guess. Or anything requiring a roast.

The only specific fish required by any recipe are: death fish (ambrosia), salmon (grilled salmon), lobster (lobster thermidor), and frog (frogs legs).

No nectar from eggplant. I've tried. You can loot nectar with purple eggplant listed on the label, but you can't make it.

I should have stated at the beginning that I have the base game, WA, SN, MV and AS.  I don't have the market yet, right now I would have to buy the points, can't afford that.

Don't racks have to be kept underground?  Hadn't thought about a nectar maker, my sims are very rich so no problem in them buying it.  Any thing else that could be helpful in making nectar?

On the patio and a grilling area, I have built those into other parks and no sims ever went there so I hadn't thought about adding.  Whoever downloads it will have a grills and tables to use; anything else?  Have the eggplants (one with eggs), steak, burger and cheese plants that are at perfect.

My sims just received omini seeds, would that be of any value to have in the gardens?

Anyone want money trees?   :D

Going to check and see what are the must in all of the recipes for Cooking for base game, SN any other towns, pumpkin is the only one from Seasons.

I will  have for all of the garden the plants in rows, easier for harvesting.  But a small patio area with regular shrubs, flowers that I can mix in other plants, garlic, tomato and such  for the Nectar one.  For the Cook oone have them also in rows but have mixed in the patio area other plants not needed for cooking, such as the grapes from France.
I seem to be staying with the U shape Uupside down) forms with plants around the pond in the center and patio in the front.  I am thinking of changing it to a different setup for these specific gardens; plants still in rows, but  . . .

*Mind working on designs*

Nectar racks don't have to be underground, no. They appreciate the value of the nectar faster that way but it's not necessary.

Omni plants are always good! Maybe then you can grow links and roasts.

Since this thread is more about building than it is World Adventures, I'm going to change it's location to our building child board.

Thanks for the moving.  Sometimes it is hard to know which one.  It is about WA, but also about creating (building) a nectary garden.  Getting opinions on what would be nice to put in it and then going into how to actually design it.

I'm reading up on omini plants to learn more about them.  The first time I have ever had any so they are new to me.  I think I will add a couple from the buydebug and learn more about them before I plant the seeds I have.

I am going to make the assumption that the nectar machine has to be kept indoors, and so I need to add a small room for it.

If you're going to build a nectary garden, I would suggest adding a couple of blank patches so that people who are able to plant lemons/bananas etc can use edit town and add those fruits without them looking too out of place.

Thanks,  I hadn't thought of leaving space for other plants.  The nectar garden is definitely specific garden, if you don't have WA, very few of the plants will show up.
Hadn't thought of the players having plants from other games.  Knew I couldn't get them, but silly of me, I didn't think of leaving space.  But it wouldn't have been hard to add them; I am a bit OCD in how I lay out my garden.  Plants in rows, but sometimes creating a design.  My trees have open spaces so they could be moved closer to each other for others to be added.  I count the squares and most of the time they are equal, but some a bit off.  Irritating.
It's not completely finished but I think I will post pictures in the Showboat thread for suggestions on the garden.

I have the garden ready for inspection and I put it on the showboat thread.  Check it out and give me so info of how it looks, changes needed made to it.

I am woking on the Culinary Garden.  It is going to be smaller, on a 20 x 30 lot.  I have three ponds, one with deathfish, one that has the salmon and lobster and the other one has anchovies that are needed in some of the recipes.  I'll go back and add frog legs to one of the ponds for those who want to fix them.
