Any Tips To Prevent Pre-Made Lot Sinking Into Ground?
« on: March 29, 2013, 01:46:47 PM »
When I place lots they tend to sink into the ground.  I searched and discovered that it is necessary to use the cheat code SetImportedTerrainOffset (with a number) before placing the lot and that this will solve the problem.

It does; after a bit of guesswork at getting the right number.  However, using this cheat, when I place a smaller lot into a bigger space, I'm now getting a ridge all around: like a little pointy hedge.

This is driving me batty. I like to play test my lots and it takes several attempts at placing them to get the 'offset' number right and, now, I have ridges  :(

Has anyone any advice, please?  Both to working out what number I should use and how to avoid the ridges.  Thanks.

That's another annoyance. Nothing really you can do about it but find the right number by trial and error, and try to smooth the lot afterwards (in your case I would try placing tiles on the "hedge" and bulldozing them again, to try smooth it -- tiles sometimes make perfect smoothers).

Thanks very much for replying, SimAd.  I managed to smooth that lot and I seem to be getting better at the trial and error method.  It is indeed an annoyance, I never used to have this problem, thought it was something that I'd started doing wrong. Good to know that it's a problem faced by others too.
