Weak Family Ties

To maintain interest in a rich family I moved out the grandson into a starter home, and made him my active family.  After only 14 days of skilling up and working no one in his 5* celebrity family even recognizes him.  He had to try to introduce himself to his own mother, and that only resulted in a negative interaction.

I can understand friendships decaying over time, but for a family to regard another family member as a complete stranger in only 14 sim days is fairly extreme.  The only way I could remedy the situation, and re-establish the relationships, was to move the grandson back into the family home.

Are you sure that's not a glitch? I've done that plenty of times and never had that issue.

Is he also a 5 star celebrity? When a sim meets a celebrity, they have to "impress" them before normal conversation. The relationship should have been preserved once you get past the impressing.

He is a 3* himself.  The grandfather, grandmother, and mother are 5*.  He had to try and impress them all again, but couldn't.  I'll try moving him out again to see how it goes.

In my experience, family member relationships decay just like any other relationship.  It doesn't seem to matter if they're family or not.  If your Sim doesn't keep in touch, the relationship bar will go down.

On the level that we see it, a couple of weeks, which is probably what, a couple of decades time (a guess)  family relations can drop, but not that much.  But, that is in the real world. 

In the sim world, friends can stop being friends in three days, family members can become acquantices and then even have no relationship.  Why it would be so hard to renew it is strange to me.  My  sims don't remain friends, but they are friendly toward each other. 

Could having a different traits be a factor in how relationships deteriorate?  Sims who are family members and you have a close relationship and similar traits have a relationship that last longer than sims who are close but have different traits?  Could that be a factor in length of reltionships?

Celebrity relationships seem to deteriorate faster than others due to the big hit all of your current relationships take when someone starts a rumor that your sim pee'd their pants.

Re-establishing your familial relationships shouldn't be so hard.  Would be easier if celebrity status were not considered for family members.  Family meaning of the same bloodline, not just in the same home.
