Sims Behavior
« on: March 17, 2013, 08:07:34 PM »
What can Sims controlled by Story Progression do and how do they do it?
  • They can shop and so on. However, how and where do they get money from?
  • Can they become bankrupt?
  • Can they buy stuff for houses where they live?
  • Can they buy potions/elixirs? If they become a vampire for example, I do not want a town where almost all of the sims are vampires etc.
  • If some economic system is working they will be without money, if they give tips to buy stuff etc.. I saw on Saturday that they act like idiots. Some Sims were playing chess and then he ran to toilet. He almost wet himself...

Welcome to the forums!

Yes they can shop. They get money multiple ways. By working, or by collecting things, selling things that they make, really how they make money is practically an endless list!

Well going bankrupt is hard, but I guess it could be done. If they do not have the money to pay the bills, the repo man will come and repossess their items.

Buying stuff for their house is as easy as going into build/buy mode.

If you have the elixir shop yes they can buy potions. In the skill Alchemy, there is a Potent Cure Potion that will cure them from whatever they have become and turn them back into normal sims.

Giving tips I don't believe takes any money from them, but yes buying things takes their money. Sometimes when you have free will on high, yes they will act silly lol. That's part of the awesomeness that is the sims though!  ;D

I believe mimas was talking about the NPCs and townies - I'm pretty sure they buy things and tip with imaginary simoleons (well more imaginary than the simoleons we use as players anyway). The money doesn't affect their household funds, and I doubt a functioning economy is anywhere on the list of priorities EA has for this game :)

Oh ok! I thought they were talking about player controlled sims.

Yeah NPC's and townies just operate on their own. I have no clue where they get their money and stuff!

I guess this is safety mechanism for NPC.

But if NPC can buy stuff and sell how this can affect Town if i have set no ageing.
I am scared off alot of pest, book in shops ets.

- no ageing affect NPC right?

If you have no aging on, no one in the town will age. This can lead to overpopulated cities in which case, story progression will most likely start killing off the children. However if you have both aging and SP off, no one will age or die. I think.  ::)

Whether or not Townies buy things or spend money isn't part of the game.  They always live just fine, no matter what you would expect.  Only the Sim(s) you control can spend money and go shopping.  The Townies are just there to fill in the rest of the town with characters for your Sim to interact with.  The Townies and NPCs just don't matter as for how they live and spend money.
