Dead Foreign Visitor

The male sim I'm currently playing is great friends with Chen Hong, who was the Special Merchant in China in this game.  A couple of days ago (game time) the message came up that Chen was old and going to die soon.  I had my sim invite Chen for a last visit.  Chen was due to arrive the next day.  Later that afternoon the message came up that Chen was dead.  Next morning, who should appear but Chen, looking very much alive.  James didn't want Chen to go back to China, where he was apparently  already dead; so he invited Chen to move in, which Chen accepted.  It's a bit of a challenge since James's lot is a campground, but they're managing.



My questions are:  (1) has anyone else had this happen?  How could someone come for a visit after he's dead?  and more importantly (2) what will happen if Chen goes to visit in China, where he's already dead?  I'm sure he'd like to see his son and his friends, but is it safe to let him go?  Does anyone have experience with this?

Well, I have not had any of these bugs, but there have been several reports on foreign visitors that have been cloned by glitches. Maybe this is one of those times?

In any case, since it's obviously a bug or glitch, it may be very hard to know whether Chen dies when he gets home or if he's survived his own death ( only in the Sims). Therefore, you should be careful about sending him back, at least make sure to save before. My experience from this game gives me a hunch that glitch or no glitch, he's going to be a normal sim when he moves in with you (as the Grim Reaper for example becomes), so he may be just fine, but as said; just be careful about it.

I think that Chen is being chased by the Chinese mafia.  He has faked his own death and has manipulated you into providing him with accomodation.  I don't know if I would let that Chen near my kids.  He sounds dodgy.

I would be careful with him. I do advise you to keep him in Sunset Valley/Riverview and do not send him to China!

And I advice you to actually send him back and make a note of what happend there. Because I (and a lot of other members) do like to know what will happen. (Probably nothing. )

This reminds me of my own sims who can still call their young adult grand grand mother who has occasionally died of old age. Weird things happens in The Sims.
It is time that the investigator job get started once Ambitions arives. Let's finally solve those paradoxical X-files problems.

Yes, it's a conundrum.  Do I send Chen back to China, knowing that the Grim Reaper may be waiting to grab him when he gets off the plane?  Or, if eucalypt111 is right, maybe it'll be the Chinese mafia waiting for him.  Although I can't really see Chen as a criminal mastermind - frankly, he's too lazy, too clumsy, and too absent-minded.   But they could be after him because he stumbled on some secret of theirs when he was working as Special Merchant.  Anyway, Chen is now working hard on his LTW to win a chess tournament.  Once he's achieved that, I'll grant his wish to visit China and we'll see what happens.  At least he can die content.  Chen thanks you for your interest and invites you to stay tuned!

What is his age now?  I think that would be the deciding factor, is he at the end or back at the beginning of elder?  If you do send him back to visit, make sure you take another sim, just in case something happens when you get there.  That would be weird, take a single sim to a foreign country and they pass away, then what happens?

I turned off aging when Chen moved in, as I didn't want him to die again right away.  He is an elder and there is no green at all in his age bar.  Isn't that a bit odd?  I mean, if he died of old age in China, shouldn't his age bar be at least part full? 

Chen is something of a mystery all round.  He has a permanent "meditative focus" moodlet even though he hasn't been meditating.  And he always the white gi and belt when doing martial arts even though he has level 7 martial arts skill.  Perhaps he's a visitor from another planet, here on a mission.  Now that his work in China is done, he has come to Sunset Valley.  To infiltrate?  To teach?  To befriend the locals through playing chess with them?  Only time will tell.

If there's something that Sims 1 and 2 has thought us, it's that all aliens are just trying to pollinate their genome into the human one by impregnating all men.

Nah seriously, all that you said make Chen more and more sound like a glitched sim. You should be very careful around him.

I had an issue with the aging resetting--I had aging off and threw a birthday party for the teen and later that sim day I noticed the dad was suddenly younger (can't remember if it reset him to the beginning of his adult bar or just gave him a few extra days to live). Sounds to me like the game just didn't know what to do since you had him already scheduled to visit your house when he died so they let him have some extra time and reset his elderhood? I'd try and take him back to China, just save before you go, because if his bar isn't filled at all, he should probably be fine. Let us know if you do though!
