How do I send a gift to a friend?

Hello,

Anytime I try to send a gift to a friend it never works.  In fact my friends never come up at all on the list for sending gifts for some reason.   If I purchase and item in buy mode and put it in my inventory is there any way I can give it to a friend as a gift and does the friend have to come up on the list?

I think that if you have the item in your personal inventory and click on it it will give you the option to send to friend. I had the same problem with my friends not coming up on the list but when I entered their name in the search box it brought them up. Have you tried clicking on the mailbox and using that option? And this may sound like a stupid question but you are logged in, correct?
