Bills while living in a Frat house?

So I moved my sim into the Frat house for free rent. I just got the warning that I havn't paid my bills and the repo man is coming! I looked and saw there is a mailbox at the Frat house and I owe 3000! My sim has only been in school for like 4 days, and he isn't earning money at Uni, obviously. Anyone know what is up with that?

Try going to the adminstrative office and asking for a grant. My dean's list sim has got 7500 so far.

Did you have bills piled up from the home neighborhood? I rented a small house in the Sims University neighborhood and never got a single bill, so your story surprises me.

No I didn't. I did, however, replace some of the furniture in the Frat house with stuff out of the buy menu. I'm wondering if that was the reason? Or do you pay for uni fees buy mailbox? Either way, the suggestion about going for a grant helped, thanks!

My sim lived in the sorority house and after her first stint there she had one bill in her inventory and after her second stint, she had about 8. Each time the number of bills corresponded with the number of things I added to the house. I don't know if it is just coincidence or as shownder says, whether it's related to placing stuff from buy mode. I also can't pay any of the bills, they are all stuck in her inventory.

I know of two mods that can fix this. One for sure I cannot post about here because it violates the rating of the game. I'm trying to figure out if the other one does. I don't see that it adds/makes available any interactions that would break the posting rules here, but I'm not sure yet. I'll have to research a bit more.

I don't know of any way to move stuck inventory items without a mod, although I'm curious to know if it's possible.

When I got back home form university (I lived in a sorority) I had two bills that were permanently stuck in the inventory... couldn't click on them or anything - had to use a mod to get rid of them.

I read somewhere that they are actually love letters. (they change to bills because the sim they are from is no longer available)
 To prevent getting them check your mail before you leave university to go home.

Even collecting all mail before you go is no guarantee you won't get them.  I think that written, but still undelivered, letters get transformed into bills.

I had my sim live in a dorm, because I had heard of this issue happening in the rental houses, but not the dorms.  By the time she graduated she had 14 bills stuck in her inventory.  Looks like I'm not the only one having this issue in rent-free houses/dorms.  Here's hoping they fix this with a patch.

The bills in the inventory issue is actually a separate issue from the original poster's comment.  He's referring to actual bills that the game gives vs the bugged bills that people get from the love letter failure bug.    There are already threads about the stuck bills on the forum and that conversation is off topic for this thread.
