Getting wishes to fire
« on: February 26, 2013, 04:51:23 AM »
I've been interested in how to get certain wishes to fire for a while now, and was wondering if we could make a list of how to make certain wishes happen, or when they happen. I'm mostly interested in the bigger ones, but it's good to know the guaranteed little ones, too. I'll start off with just a few. What I'm really interested in right now, is how to fire the money wishes.

Have more than §5,000 - fires the first day if you have less than §5000, and Swimming in Cash LTW
Have more than §10,000 - fires as soon as you complete the previous wish
Have more than §20,000 - fires as soon as you complete the previous wish
Have more than $30,000 - fires as soon as you complete the previous wish

After that those wishes stop coming for a while, and I was wondering what the next one is, and what triggers it? I'm guessing it's "Have more than §50,000", but I don't know how to make it happen.

I might go through and add all the skill wishes, too. Sculpting and Handiness are very reliable, while others not so much.

I think it is in fact 50k then 100k, 500k and 1 million.   The million is worth somthing around 25k (edit: 34,500 with ambitious) happiness points.  Sorry, I am not sure how these are triggered, but, I suspect that they come over time if your money does npt increase too fast and your stash takes a hit pushing it below the pevious trigger threshhold.  Example: have 600k + and then buy a couple of top range cars.   I could be wrong here, but I never allow my cash to blossom too fast.  Buy out businesses (but don't collect the dividend), leave valuable metals and gems in storage boxes etc  ready to cash in when the wish triggers.  I don't know why, but, the computer seems to calculate the value of large spiral tiberium as part of your cash even when in storage boxes.  So keep the metal, gems, etc.  in their base form until the 1 million wish triggers.   An interesting blip with tiberium is that the computer also counts it in your cash when you move - place a dosen or so large tiberium in a storage chest, move.  Your family funds will include the value of your stored tiberium, but when you complete the move the tiberium is still in the chest and can be sold - double your money  :)

One of the easiest ways to get a max skill wish is to reach max level in a career that uses it.

There are also wishes for net worth but the only thing that seems to trigger them is getting a large boost to net worth and being not that far from it.  I've had it trigger from some Tiberium growing in the yard and also getting a big payout from the consignment shop.

Hopeless Romantics trigger the 'Get Married' wish sooner and Family Orientated sims trigger the various 'Have a baby' wishes sooner and get more of them. A sim's traits can influence certain big wishes to fire, that's what I've found anyway.

Family-oriented sims also trigger wishes to get married sooner than other sims.

It's just a guess, but I figure that a sim who has a FO trait and has a child will have the "see _____ get married" and "become a grandparent" faster than one who doesn't have the FO trait.

Wishes go off the rails too. I had a Sim who had 5 kids come up for a wish to have 10. Obviously that can't happen. You also get wishes like having a child get married or becoming a grandparent even though the household is full.

A lot of times I get the wish to cook a dish right after I just cooked it. You are also likely to get a wish to learn a recipe when you're on vacation.

But to the point, I think it's a certain action that spawns the wish most of the time. After you reach a high level (I think it happens at 8), you get the wish to master a skill. Those are usually high value wishes. My painters usually get a wish to paint 5 masterpieces after painting their first.

Usually, it's not spawning wishes that is the problem. It's wish management. Do you keep that 1000 point wish that you know you will eventually do or drop it for a 300 point wish you can complete right now.

Now if I could only figure out how to spawn opportunities...

My personal opinion, unless you know you can complete the wish within a few hours, 300 points now are better then 1000 points sometime.  You will almost always fill the spot vacated by the 300 points almost immediately and make up the "lost" 700.  My problem is with the big ones.  5.000 + points in a few days or 500 now and hope to make it up with lots more little ones.  There are some which you know you won't complete anytime soon, like cook 5 meals perfectly, these I ignore.  There are some you take and then another comes up which you can do more quickly but of equal or near equal value.  Such as paint a masterpiece or increase painting skill by one level.  Well, the masterpiece is random but I can estimate how long to the next skill level, so, generally I take the lower value skill increase and cancel the masterpiece or one of the other two wishes.
