Chapter 20 - Biased Decisions

Chapter 20 - Biased Decisions

My freak brother graduated yesterday, sneaking up to the stage.

He's decided that he wants to compose music, so he bought a guitar and now takes every possible opportunity to play it, often in the middle of the night.

Mom has been trying to get my sister and I to bond, but it's really hard because we are totally different people. When we try to talk she's all like "Horses horses horses I love horses have you seen my horses?"

Not. Interested. Ugh, she is SO boring.

I'm graduating in only a few days, so I've had to study and do my homework like way more than normal. It's so much work, and it's totally pointless too.

I don't need straight As to take pictures, Mom! I need art skills though, and now I have way less time to paint.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Woooo! Mom, Uncle Lewit, AND Rain got a free two day vacation, so we're home alone besides the butler, Fatarsha. Party time, right? NOPE.
Song and I don't know ANY other teens besides each other, so we can't throw a party. It's Mom's fault for always keeping us in to do our homework and stuff. We can't even throw parties for our birthdays, which we had to celebrate all by ourselves. And Fatarsha.
So I was standing at my cake, with two people cheering.
Then when, I blew out the candles, disaster!
I guess it was a good thing that Fatarsha was there; she extinguished me while Song extinguished the rest of the massive inferno the candles had somehow started.
That would have been ironic, though, going out by birthday fire, just like dear old Dad.
So the cakes were ruined, but eventually we aged up by ourselves.
This is the new me:
And this is the new Song:
The adults came home that night, luckily after Fatarsha cleaned up the fire mess, and Song and I took our University Aptitude Test. I don't know why Song bothered when she's not going back to school anyways, but I am. I scored well in the art section (obviously) and I got a good boost on the credits.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I was just walking down the hall outside my room, not eavesdropping or anything, and I heard voices coming through from Mom's room. Here, I'll write it down:

Lewit: You gave her the book, didn't you? Why did you choose her, of all people?
Mom: Why wouldn't I?
Lewit: It should have been Rain's. He's the oldest, so he should be the heir.
Mom: You know well as I do that Rain is not right to lead the family.
Lewit: Well, what about Song? You have to admit that she would be a much better leader than China. She's Brave and Good, while China's an Irresistible Party Animal, and a Slob.
Song: I've made my decision, and you are out of place to question it.
Lewit: It's the eyes, isn't it? You picked her because she reminds you of our mom. That's shallow, Snow, and unfair to Song.
Song: You just want Song to be heir because you know she'll put your precious horses first, right?
Lewit: Don't be ridiculous.

Then I heard him stomping towards the door, and I ducked into the sitting room so he wouldn't see me. When he was gone I looked at the portrait of Grandma Azure hanging on the wall. I guess I do look like her. Our eyes are exactly the same shape and colour, and our hair is the same too. Is that why Mom gave me this book? I thought I'd earned it by more than the pure luck that gave me these eyes.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I got accepted at Sims U, so I'm going there tonight, and Rain is coming too. We're both getting degrees in Fine Arts. Mom cornered me in my studio today.
"China, I want you to be heir," she said, "So you're in charge of the family now."
"Thanks, Mom."
"You've already got the necklace and the book, so I guess this is just a formality..."
She hugged me, all sniffy.
"Why'd you pick me over Song, Mom?" I asked. I didn't mean to, but I had to know.
Mom just looked confused. "I think you're the best girl for the job, China." I wish I could believe her.
Don't feel bad, Snow. I like China best too. Maybe she can get a trait change potion and get that Slob trait out of there, though. I always have such an issue with Slob sims because I hate the mess around the sim house. Just put the dishes in the dishwasher! Geeze.
Chapter 21 - Complications
I'm at university! It's so great here, I never ever want to leave.
Rain and I left home yesterday morning to catch our flight here. I actually couldn't wait to go!
We rented this huge house - it has three bedrooms and waaay more space than two university students really need, but who cares? I'm in charge of the family's swollen bank acount, and I say that this is a priority.
Before I even unpacked my bags, I rode off on my bike to get some pictures to send back to Mom, while looking extremely creepy.
Then Rain and I headed to the University Meet and Greet thing, which was super exciting because I would finally get to meet people my own age. Rain hit it off right away with a pretty nerd girl.
But I wasn't so lucky, so I ditched the Meet and Greet to find a cooler spot to hang out at.
I eventually found the Grotto, the only place on campus that had old furniture stacked outside the front door. Perfect.
I met this really cool girl there named Connie. She's a total rebel, but she didn't snub me for my nerdy upbringing. Yeah, my entire family are nerds.
We stayed up really late chatting about university - she's working on her second degree! - but that was a mistake because the next morning I woke up just in time to sprint to class and barely make it on time.
When I got home my lack of sleep caught up to me, so I decided to rest my eyes... for five... minutes...
What? What time is it?
Dinner time, apperently. I whipped up some mac and cheese for us, but Rain was too busy getting totally rejected outside.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

This morning I met Connie at the park. It hasn't taken us long at all to become really good friends. She's just too cool.

Then Rain and I happened to have the same lecture. I was less than impressed at his worth ethic.

Mostly, though, the last few days have been a blur of studying.

And sketching. Lots of sketching.

And kissing.

Wait, what? Yeah, so we might be more than friends. Possibly. Ahem.

I took her out for a date at the diner (the most romantic date ever) and everyone seemed fine with us. Obviously, I mean this IS university. But, when I got back home, grinning from ear to ear, Rain wanted to talk to me. Never a good sign.

"So, China, don't take this the wrong way but... are you gay?" he asked, looking super uncomfortable.
"Well, yeah. I mean, I guess so. I definitely like Connie." He winced when I said that.

"Look, I would usually be fine with... this... but you're the heir to a legacy, China. You can't like girls. You have to... have nooboos. Which you obviously can't do with her."
"I know it can't last. Don't worry about it, Rain."

Then it was time to go home, me with an A on my report card, Rain with a B. He promised not to tell Mom about me and Connie, because it won't affect my standing as heir. I won't let it.

Author's note: Ah! I'm terrible! School started, so I guess that's why I haven't updated in about five billion years. I'm back, hopefully to stay, but I'm going to be making some big changes to the legacy because it's boring me just a little. Thanks for sticking around!

Chapter 22 - Forced Hand

Chapter 22 - Forced Hand

Rain and I didn't stay at home for more than a couple of days - we just wanted to finish our
degrees. Also, I wanted to see Connie again, and it was hard not telling anyone about her at
home. Keeping secrets is so not my thing.

So, we headed back to university.

Right away Rain started talking on his phone to someone, and he wouldn't tell me who. He's
definitely up to something...

I ran off to meet Connie. We planned to spend the whole day together before classes start.

We started at the Meet and Greet, and the photo booth that was there.

Yeah, those pictures aren't going anywhere.

Then we went up to one of the parks around the school. There was a keg there, so we.. partook
in it. It was great.

I got a little juiced, or maybe more than I thought. I took a picture of the two of us, and I sent it... to
Mom.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I woke up in the morning, I was still in the park. I'd slept on a bench! Beside me was
Connie.
"What happened last night?" I asked her.
"You don't remember?" she asked, looking worried.
"I remember... oh, no. I didn't..."
She put her arms around me. "You, uh, you kinda came out to your mom."
I groaned and put my face in my hands.
I better get back home," I mumbled. "See you later, Con."
I waited until I was alone in my house before I turned my phone on. Five missed calls, and 12
increasingly angry texts. I took a deep breath and dialed her number.
Me: Mom?
Mom: China! What in Watcher's name-
Me:I'm gay.
*silence*
Mom: China... look, lots of girls your age feel this way, it's just a phase that you're-
Me:No, Mom, don't tell me it's a phase. I am gay and I... I love Connie.
*more silence*
Mom: I don't know what to say. You can't have a nooboo with... her. You need to carry on the
bloodline!
Me: I know.
Mom: Should I transfer the heirship to Song? Maybe you're not the right woman for the job.
Me: No! No, Mom, I'll end it, if that's what it takes.
Mom:Okay, China. I know you'll do the right thing. *hangs up*
I can't believe it. I meant to go into that conversation asserting myself, letting her know that I can't
pretend any longer, that I AM gay and there's nothing she could do about it. She makes me so
angry. "You'll do the right thing." Really? Breaking up with my girlfriend because my mom says
so is the right thing? But what about what she'd said before that, about making Song the heir? I
can't give her the necklace, the book... it's too important to me. I don't have a choice.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I did it. I'm a horrible, horrible person. You should have seen the look on Connie's face. She'd
invited me over for a party, and we were all dressed up, and I just knew that I had to do it. I took
her aside into the kitchen for some privacy.

"Oh China, you're so beautiful," she whispered, pulling me in. I let myself stay in her arms a
moment to long before I pulled back, shaking my head.

"What is it, babe?" she asked. "Wait, is it your mom?"
I sniffed. "Sort of."
"What did she say?"
"She said that I can't be with a girl. I have to continue the legacy of the Angels."
"Oh sweetie, that's harsh." She reached for me, but I drew back. "China? You didn't listen to her,
did you?"
"Connie, I'm so, so sorry. We shouldn't-" I paused. "We can't be together." Connie stared at me,
realization dawning on her face.

"No, China, wait - " she gasped.
I turned and walked away from her, from the girl I loved, tears falling freely.

Chapter 23 - Solutions

I decided to move into Uncle Sam's old house when I got home from college (straight A's again). It's nice
enough, with a makeover, except for this one door off the entrance way that will not open.

It's much better than living in the main house, because every time I see Mom I get so angry. I can hardly believe
that I let her get between me and Connie. I'm such an idiot, such a weak pushover who can't stand up for what I
care about.

Uncle Lewit had his elder birthday today. There's not much more to say than that. He's old now, I guess.

Do you remember when Rain was making mysterious phone calls a while ago? I found out why. He had a
secret girlfriend, Dawn Eddy. They're in my kitchen.

Eventually I couldn't take the party and love, so I headed up to that pond where everything important happens,
like Moon visiting Mom and Grandma many years ago. I don't know what I was expecting to happen. Maybe an
angel would descend from the heavens, or the magical solution to my problems would jump right out of the
pond, or the weird stone head would just start talking to me. Yeah, right. I put my head in my hands and started
sobbing.

"China?"
"Oh, Connie," I wailed, turning and hugging her. Then I froze. "Wait. Connie?"

"Hey, baby."
"What are you doing here?"
"You weren't answering your phone, and your mom said that you'd probably be up here."
"You talked to my mom?" I was seriously wondering if I was having a hallucination.
"Yeah. China, why can't we be together?" she asked.
"Well, we can't have nooboos, and I have to continue the legacy."
"What if we could have nooboos?" she asked, smiling slightly.
"Connie, if we could have nooboos, I'd marry you right here," I said dryly. "But we can't."
"Oh, but we can." I stared at her in shock, and she hurried to explain about a friend of hers at the university, one
of the professors, how he was involved in ground-breaking new research and he'd heard about her and me.
"He offered to let us be the testers of his new technology!"
"What do you mean?" I asked, still confused.
"China, he can combine our DNA into an egg, so that we can have a child!" I blinked at her, processing for a
moment. Then I fulfilled my promise.

When we got back to the house, holding hands, my mom was waiting for us. She jumped on me and smothered
me with her hug.

"Oh, China, I'm so sorry!" she cried. "You have to understand, if I'd known about this..."
"It's okay, Mom, I get it." Then Mom saw the ring on Connie's finger and shrieked in delight.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That night was the night that Connie got her Watcher approved makeover, and the first night we spent together
in my home. It was amazing.
But the next morning Rain and I left for yet another term at university. This one went quick, because it was our
last term, and we finally graduated.
Now I'm back home with Connie, and it feels like the beginning of the rest of our lives, no matter how cliche that
sounds.
Okay, so I got Midnight Hollows and downloaded it, but it deleted all of my screenies... Has anyone else heard of this happening?  ??? I can't believe this is the second time I lost them all. I'll be back soon, but there's obviously a little gap in the story again.  :-\ Thanks for sticking with me!
