Game crash/family copying help (have done basic trouble-shooting already)

So, I'm getting the problem where the game crashes when I try to leave a vacation.

What I have done:
Cleared cache files
Restarted computer
Checked activity monitor to see if it's a RAM issue (it's not)
Checked for .bad files (none)
Copied the gave save and tried with the duplicate
Removed the egypt.whatever files
Read pretty much every thread on the topic that's thrown up by Google

One suggestion someone made was to copy the family to the library and just re-set it up again. But whether it's because I'm on vacation or because my sim isn't at base camp (with not enough time to return), it doesn't give me the option to copy the family to the library.

I strongly suspect that my options at this point are: a) give up on the family, b) start over, or c) restore from my only other copy of the family in the library, from way back when I was having other glitches some months ago. But I figured I should probably check to see if there was anything else I could try, whether on solving the crash issue or putting a family in the library while on vacation.

I'm guessing you didn't save before going on the vacation?  Always save, save, save.  You can save multiple copies of your game by doing Save As and giving it another name.  For example, I would have "Baby Boomer 1.0", then one called "Baby Boomer 1.1", etc.  I normally have three separate copies of my game at any given moment.  I just rotate the save names each time I save.

As for your exact problem, I can't say for sure that you can copy your family if they're at Base Camp, but it would sure be worth a try.  You said there's not enough time to get them back to Base Camp, but didn't say exactly how much time you have left.  You could try using testing cheats to teleport your family directly to the middle of the Base Camp, then quickly go into Edit Town.
