SimPoints prices ?
« on: February 25, 2013, 09:05:01 AM »
I know I need a new pair of glasses but I want to make sure I am seeing things right.

I was checking out Aurora Skies and it takes 3,900 point for the gold.  I have 2,000 from my other games that I have yet to spend.  To get the game I will need another 1,900.  If I am looking at it right it would cost me around $20.00 to buy 2,000 points.

I am going a bit much, but then I don't buy a lot of stuff from stores, such as the Sims (Amazon doesn't count), especially when you have to buy points.  Is that a normal price?  Will there be better deals later on?

The game sounds interesting, it has waterfalls (I love waterfalls) and the kids learning stuff;  but to spend 20 bucks, I'm not sure it is worth it.  I just checked and we received our income tax refund, so I can use it as my gift to myself, but . . .

That's the going rate, yes - the normal deal is that for $20, you get 2040 sim points plus a mystery item. Every once in a rare while they have a sale on SimPoints, but I don't think I've seen one in several months, if not longer.

If you don't have an absolute MUST HAVE NOW feeling about the world, you might want to see if they add an Aurora Skies simpoint bundle - if you look at the ones they have for Monte Vista, either (world + 100 simpoints) on sale for $20 or (world + 1900 simpoints for $35) would be a very good deal.

(I was going to suggest that Target seems to occasionally have a sale on EA $20 Cash Cards, but I learned yesterday, to my chagrin, that that doesn't quite get you the whole $20 worth of sim points, because they apply your state sales tax.)

The only difference is that Monte Vista didn't have a gold; the one venue does technically go with it, but it doesn't come in a bundle with MV. Even if Aurora Skies were to be a simpoint bundle, it wouldn't haave the venue, and therefore you would need to buy the venue seperately.

It states it is on sale.  Is that a permanent sale, or a temp one?  Sometimes a business will say it's on sale when really they have dropped the price and intend to keep it at that price.
Still haven't decided whether or not to get it.  Love the waterfalls, and the education center for the kids, but the leggo houses, *shudder*.  I am hoping that they can be recolored.
If a game has hills, mountains, then it is a big plus for me in buying it.  I have to have my hills, mountains around me.

The worlds are always on temporary sale when they first come out, but the prices go back to normal after a while. I don't pay close enough attention to know how long they stay on sale for, though.

If you wanted to play Aurora Skies in winter, you might want to check the official BBS first. The geothermal lake and its saltwater markers make the snow look like gray blobs. There are plenty of photos in the Store and World forums.

What is BBS?  We prefer not to use abbreviations because not everyone knows what they mean.

I don't know if it makes a difference Pam, but BBS is short for bulletin board system.  It's very, very common to see it abbreviated to BBS.  Kind like ATM means Automated teller machine.  Though I'm not arguing that abbreviations aren't confusing!
