Building a High Rise Building!

I was thinking some people might want this, so I found a GREAT video for it -

Like it said, the shells (the building it self) is in buydebug. (It's the metropolitan buildings)

Hope you give it a go! I actually built a high rise, but I need to get a picture...

I have tried to build a high rise, and it's a veritable nightmare.  And I can't stand the fact that we can't get apartment mailboxes.

I read that you need a mod for that, so no mailboxes for me.

Well, EA got them in their own apartment buildings somehow.  And they didn't use a mod to do it.  They did put the garbage chute in the BuyDebug menu post-facto, so I don't understand why they didn't do the same thing with the mailboxes...or at least give us a way to change the residential mailbox.

In that case, copy an already existing apartment lot and place everything new on it, while keeping the mailboxes. That way you can avoid the problem.

@Sydney: Have you tested this video out yourself already? I hope you know how much levels you can build within such an appartment 'shell' because I'm curious to know.

Unfortunately, there is absolutely no way to get rid of the high rise shell once it's placed.  Not even if you gut it completely.  Believe me, I've tried lol.  And besides, all the lots with apartment buildings on them are utterly huge, which makes it almost impossible to place it on an existing lot, even if you could get rid of it.

An easy fix would be for EA to release a 10x10 residential lot containing nothing but a section of wall, the apartment mailbox, and a trash can.  That way, you could drop it literally anywhere and go to town on it.

They didn't need to, they made the game in their program software and can probably script and object into the Lot or game where they want it.

An easy fix would be for EA to release a 10x10 residential lot containing nothing but a section of wall, the apartment mailbox, and a trash can.  That way, you could drop it literally anywhere and go to town on it.

Not really because how are you going to get that Mailbox off the 10x10 Lot? You would need a bigger lot and I think I have just the Solution for you.  ;) (I just have to go into my game to double check for you!)

In Bridgeport I found Two Apartments that are not Highrise's so I thought maybe you could knock down the existing building but keep the mail box and save the Lot to the Bin and then you have it. Just delete the building through Build/Buy Mode otherwise if you Bulldoze from the Menu then the Mail Box will go.

Floodgate Apartment and 71 Bayshore Highstreet were the names I think.

Actually, judging by the fact that the shells to high rises are available in the buyDebug menu, I'm relatively certain that they didn't program every individual lot from scratch.  I am also aware that there are codes that they have access to in their design version of the program that are removed from the retail version of the game.  And I understand why they remove some of them...I would imagine that multiple mailboxes on a lot would wreak havoc on a game.

You don't need to get it off the lot.  You can place any lot in your bin into any existing lot in the game that is the same size or larger and is of the same type.  The lot remains the size of the lot in the game, and the smaller lot is centered in the larger lot when it's placed.  However, you can't place a larger lot from your bin into a smaller game lot for obvious reasons.

Thus, you could drop this lot into any residential lot and it would fit.  Of course, there's still the problem of the multiple mailbox (possible) issue that I mentioned above, so I guess that this wouldn't be as easy a fix as I thought.  Darn it, I thought I was onto something lol.

I did test it, and I was able to build a nice little one bedroom apartment. I think it is only one level though, but you can make it very large.  :)

I knew there was one, but the lot was a bit larger than I was hoping for.  Smaller is better, really.  I'm going to have to look into how big the other one is.  Thanks!

I was playing around with building a building a few days ago, and i found a way to do it. First, you need to use the cheats [testingcheatsenabled true], [buydebug], [restrictbuildbuyinbuildings off]. Then choose the mold you want out of the debug and then take the wall tool and trace the walls you want inside the base of the building, then go up to the next floor and continue building like a regular house. Make sure you place slots for elevators, then go to debug again and find the silver orb called "make public room" or something like that, and place it in the rooms you want to be public, and find the orb called "make private room" and place it in the rooms you want to be private. You can also place the hidden room maker in unused rooms. if you don't use a floor, place the "level skip" orb somewhere in the floor to skip it. Mail boxes and other items are in the debug section also. This is basically everything to make a high rise/apartment building. Hope it helps.
