Issues...
« on: January 30, 2013, 01:56:36 AM »
Hi I'm new here but I have been playing the Sims for a long time.  I just recently got the Late Night expansion and started to have some issues.

1. The friend meter that appears on the top left of the screen whenever your Sims are interacting will not disappear.  I can switch to a different Sim but the meter still won't go away
2. On one of my Sims I can no longer click on her, I can tell her to do other things but when it comes to clicking on her or her cellphone nothing comes up

I don't have any mods or downloads so I have no clue as to what could have happened.  It all started when I downloaded Late Night and had to do an update for my Sims 3.  Anybody have any ideas as to what could be wrong?

Hi there and welcome to the forum.
In cases like this, game's not working we have some standard procedure you might want to follow first in order to see if that might clean out your game:
Have you clean out your Dcbackup folder? Files in that are known to mess up your game sometimes.
What also might help is defragmenting your disk after cleaning the DcBackup folder.
Let us know if that helped your problem, if not we havevto keep continuing searching to figure it out.

Welcome to our Forum, crimsonfyre.

Have you checked to see if this happens in all of your game files?  It sounds like it might just be a corrupt file.  If that's the case, you'll just have to abandon it and play other files.

crimson - Welcome to the forum! :)

Two things I'd suggest are:
1) Going to Documents>Electronics Arts>The Sims 3>Saves and deleting anything that ends in .bad.
2) Open up your game, press "Ctrl+Shift+C", type in "resetsim *" (minus quotes) and pressing Enter.

Oh, that remind me of something: Seabody, isn't it possible to replace the .backup file with the original one to illuminate the problem?
Since one of the early updates of the game Sims automatically backups itself it could have made a backup from before the problem occurred to Crimsonfyre.

the resetSim didn't work...and I really don't want to abandon this family...I've worked way to hard on it.  How can I replace the .backup file?

In your Saves folder (Documents > Electronic Arts > The Sims 3 > Saves) you should find saves labeled "whatever.sims3" and "whatever.sims3.backup". You may see "whatever.sims3.bad" - if you see those, you should delete them.

Basically, locate your Save Folder, delete it, and rename it's backup folder from "whatever.sims3.backup" to "whatever.sims3". Remember when you first saved the game, and it prompted you for a name? That's what it will be called. If you named it "crimsonfyre", the folders you are after are "crimsonfyre.sims3" and "crimsonfyre.sims3.backup".
