Cat can't reach water to fish anywhere
« on: February 27, 2013, 01:36:00 PM »
Trying to get a cat to catch a fish, but no matter where I click on the water she'll just walk to the edge and then get the 'can't get to there' thought bubble.  In fact it seems like pets have huge issues reaching water at all...when water is nearby they'll attempt to drink sometimes, but it just causes the same 'can't get there' thought bubble 90% of the time.  This is driving me crazy, anyone know how to fix this?

There are a couple of fishing spots that I have that problem with.  You can move your sim to the edge, or if that does not work take a few steps to the left or right and then click on the water.   That usually does the trick.

That was one of the first things I tried, but it didn't work...tried getting as close to the edge as possible and moving all over and things, but still can't get to the water.

Is the problem happening in just one game file, or is it happening in all of them?

My sim has a pond in his backyard that has this problem, but can go to the river (in Union Cove) and my cats can fish fine.

I noticed this before, as well, in both Appaloosa Plains and Moonlight Falls. Sometimes it requires a full bar of fishing commands before kitty finds a spot that suits her. Haven't quite figured it out yet, but maybe the terrain is too steep in the problem spots, or the water not deep enough -- or too deep? I'll pay more attention next time a cat wants to go fishing.

Otherwise, we can chalk it up to cats being peculiar. ;)

The deeper the better seems to be how it needs to be.  I've had cats that won't fish off a soft terrain but give them a cliff to jump off of and they go straight for it.  Go figure.   I placed Union Cove once as Pam and her husband.  Most of her cats wouldn't fish in their own pond!

I myself have never ran into this problem, but normally have a my cat fish in the pond I made in the back yard. A simple circle, but it seems to suffice. Maybe try flattening your home lot and making a new pond? Good luck anyways.  :D
