Obtaining Painting Opportunities
« on: October 04, 2009, 09:59:06 AM »
In Carl's Painting Guide, he mentions the importance of getting the Fresco Opportunity. I can definitely see why as it increases the value of all future paintings. But, I can't seem to get that opportunity to fire. Are there conditions necessary to make that happen or is just a chance thing? My painter is a loner and rarely goes out in public, so I'm wondering if having a relationship with a certain individual is the key. And same thing with the 2 other big Painting Opportunities — the business building one and the City Hall one....are there conditions to make those opportunities fire? Thanks for any help.

Other than level requirements for opportunities to appear, all opportunities are random in chance to appear.
You just have bad luck.

I was just about to ask a similar question, only about gardening opportunities.
My sim maxed out gardening but isn't getting any opportunities. I played a gardener before and got several very quickly, now nothing. I want an Omni plant! >:(
I thought it might be because he doesn't have any friends or because he doesn't have a job or something... He also has max cooking and not a single cooking opportunity either.

But I guess it is just chance, the egg and cheese plants opportunity finally showed more than a week after maxing out the skill.

I agree, it's random... I've had this trouble with gardeners, trying to get the omni plant opportunity. It just seems to take forever if you're unlucky. It seemed to take weeks before I got the first opportunity (level 8 or 9), even when I kept my skills op slot clear the entire time.

Also it doesn't seem to matter if your Sim knows anyone, as they tend to be introduced when the opportunity first comes up.

I've had a loner writer once.
He got an opportunity to write a biography for Nancy Landgraab.
He had 0 friends and Nancy was not an acquaintance, so I agree with Carl in not requiring a relationship.

Another very lucrative opportunity for artists is the one that Doo Peas Towers wants paintings to spruce up their office.  They ask for 10 medium and small paintings.  I've had a couple of sims complete this opportunity and boy, it pays good...20,000 simeoleons on one and 40,000 on another.  ;D

Yes if you ever get one that asks you to turn in multiple of anything, be it paintings or food, try to give them the high quality stuff because it generally pays more.

Even more than what they pay you if you sell them normally instead of an opportunity.

Yeah, it's multiplied somehow. It's worth storing a few masterpiece paintings in the family inventory, where they can gain that 5 extra worth per Sim day. Later, that 5 will be multiplied when they are turned in for the opportunity.

I didn't know other sims cared about the quality of the stuff you give them, good tip.

That's what I said. I've heard of $100,000 for multiple large masterpieces turned in that had an original value of $5000 but I need to test this.

I took down the price of all the paintings I turned in for the Doo Peas opportunity and the money I got in return was exactly 8 times the amount. I did have the opportunistic trait at that time. I think that trait doubles your reward so you'll be looking at about 4 times the amount. I made $281204 more than if I had sold them normally. Totally worth selling the large masterpieces.
"An excellent post"

I vaguely remember getting the fresco fest a couple of times in a challenge last year, but I wasn't sure if it was for different sims. Can anyone confirm if you can get it more than once?
