Sims 3 keeps freezing around 2AM? (sim time)
« on: August 10, 2012, 06:06:39 PM »
Whenever it reaches around 2AM on Sims 3, the game always freezes. But the animations (Zzz, trees, bushes, etc) are still moving. Clicking everywhere won't help..
It happened in my last save, too and I thought that making a new save would help, but it didn't. :| Here's the times that the game froze:

Last save: 2:00 AM
This save: 2:38 AM

Both of the saves are in Sunset Valley.

 Miriam

Is this a total freeze (crash), or just a long lag pause?

I frequently get a long lag around 2pm in Sunset Valley. When this happens, I press pause and go make a drink or something similar,  when I return, the red pause frame is showing and the game runs but a little stuttery for the rest of the night.  Using resetsim * clears it though.  Observation of the town overview while still paused has horses and the unicorn inside the science lab fences.  I think that trapped horses may be the cause and have been thinking of removing the fences (using enablelotlocking true) to see it this fixes the problem.

It's a total freeze, and strangely enough, it only happens in Sunset Valley. The other towns work fine though.
I had to move my story from Sunset Valley to Bridgeport. :/

Hi Miriam,

This sounds like something that happens to me in all my game saves, regardless of what town I play in. Except it freezes every morning at 5am till about 5:30am. (Sim game time) and it's about 5-10 minutes actual time.

I think ?? it might be a normal thing, due to the game needing to do it's thing and if you've got any gardens in your town that's when they produce their harvestables.

I'm sad that I face the same problem in Appaloosa Plains. My game freezes at around 05:30am (sim time). I tried "resetsim *" and delete files named *.package and all files in "DCBackup" folder. But all have no help.
Even I waited for a several hours (real time). My game is still freezing.
Please help!
Now I realize playing the Sims 3 on Mac is playing the game of installation and uninstallation...

Plants spawn fruit from 5h00 to 5h30 game time. Auto sprinklers make it severely worse. And that is also when a lot of sims wake up... It'll dig into your ram reserves real deep. But freezing around 2am? I can only imagine you blew someone's car up. It has frozen my game solid for many, many consecutive hours. Fortunately I abound in the virtue of patience. The problem is that when they want to get in their car... There is no car. So the game spawns a new one but somehow its head gets wasted in the process. Why 2am? Not a clue, but it makes sense that they might need to drive somewhere at that time.

Mine kept freezing no matter what time it was.  I uninstalled Pets and now the games work alot better, plus having the cars removed with Twallans mod, has really improved gameplay. :)

Yeah, something must be happening regularly at that time in your game. Mine always freezes at 6 am when the day begins and around 18:00 when the day is over. Have you tried reseting the world? Some sim could be getting stuck somewhere at that time or something. You reset the world by typing "resetSim *" (without quotes).

I have tried both "resetsim *" and deleting all plants in my house. But my game still freezes at around 5:30am (sim time).

Did you try in another world? I just noticed that you said it was in Appaloosa Plains. That world runs awfully in my computer, at all times of the day, and sometime it allways ends up crashing after a couple of weeks sim-time, but Riverview, Sunset Valley and, surprisingly, Starlight Shores run pretty smoothly for me. Maybe it's an issue with Appaloosa.

This is my first post and I actually found this site while searching for an answer to my freeze/crash issue as well.  My game, regardless of town,  freezes every morning between 1:00 and 1:38 am and the only way out is to bring up the task manager and kill the process.  I've started game after game and always the same thing.  I used the Story Progression mod by Twallan at one time, but removed it due to horrendous stuttering.  Deleting my cache files makes no difference and I also disengage EA Story Progression.  One thing I've noticed which is strange, I have no live venues in Sunlit Tides and still hear the music that plays with sing a grams.  I'm wondering if it's possible that something in Showtime could be causing the freezing.

That is very possible (and likely). Every expansion has regular events/processes of its own and not every computer can handle them all. Maybe a PC upgrade is the best course of action.

I'm having the same problem as Miriam, mine is freezing between 9:00 and 9:30 pm, but only in Sunset Valley.  Anybody found a solution?  I'm extremely frustrated.
