Game Crashes During Saving After Adding Second Story

Not sure what exactly is happening, but every time I try to save after building a second story, my game crashes. No warnings, no messages, no error screens. I have tried clearing all my caches, deleting thumbnails and extra saved content. I don't use CC other than Mastercontroller and Overwatch. I have every EP and SP installed except Sweet Treats.

I did recently re-install Pets, which was giving me all kinds of in-game clock issues after Showtime came out. I'm hoping I don't have to remove it again. I'm tired of having a 40 dollar paperweight. Sigh.

I am running off of a Gateway DX4860 desktop with an Intel i3-2120 Cpu (3.30GHz), 6GBs ram and a 1tb hard drive. Not sure what the Graphics card is.

Any suggestions would be really really appreciated.

Since right before Seasons came out with the release of 1.42, the game randomly starts crashing when people build.  There's no way to know when it will happen and no way to know if it will effect your lot, a fishing spot or not at all.   My only suggestion would be if it's not a challenge file, to copy house & household into the library and possibly  moving into another town.   

If it is a challenge file, avoid building on the second floor.

* Have you tried doing something else in that save file to see if that can save?
* Do you use "save" or "save as"? (save as usually works better)
* Do you have save files that end with ".bad"? If so, delete those! If you use "save as" and you had save files with ".bad", it may be better to delete the save file directly previous to the first one with ".bad". There can be a bug in it that started the problem of the ".bad" files.

* Have you tried other save files?
* Have you tried moving the build to your library and moving it back again? And maybe into another world or new save file?

There are many things you can try before giving up on an expansion. If your in game clock works fine, I would just leave it installed. First check if it can be something else. Good luck!

Hi, I have the same problem and there have been a few posts on here about it ever since Seasons came out. The problem seems to be fixed if you evict your family and then bulldoze the lot, see here http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/forum/index.php/topic,13597.0.html courtesy of Korva. I haven't tried it as the problem is in my Dynasty game so i'm just having to keep the house on one level. Hope this helps.

Ricalynn- It isn't a challenge file, thank goodness. I'm planning on trying that next.

Odie- Building on the first level causes me no problem. For some reason it is the second story (or beyond) that causes the problem. I've had Seasons since it came out and this is the first time I have encountered this problem. I have used both "save" and "save as" and both will cause crashing. The funny part is, I can still play and move around and do all the normal sim stuff, including going up onto the second level before I save. It's just the actual process of saving that causes the issue.

I just checked and I don't have any files that end in ".bad". I also keep backups of all my files and I don't have any in that folder either. I haven't tried in any of the other files yet, since they are both challenge files, but as of a week ago, I was having no problems.

I'll update as soon as I try the old bulldoze and replace trick.

So, after a little investigation, it appears as though it just affects that save file.

Well, the old save and bulldoze trick seems to have worked. I don't know why I didn't think to do that earlier.
