Saving certain items before uninstall - reinstall

I dont want to save everything I have (part of my problem was going CC crazy and now it takes forever for the game to load , and it crashes all the time) but I would like to save one house I built , one sim and her three dogs , and Riverview & Hidden Springs

How would I find these items to save them ?

Riverview & Hidden Springs in an unmodified version will always be available through the store and your purchase history.

The specific house, Sim and dogs could probably be saved as a household and "share them" which will turn them into a .sims3pack in your export folder.  Just remove the .sims3pack to a safe spot or upload the household to the exchange and it will be available to you after you've done your reinstall or factory reset.

How does one reinstall the family? I had three families and two empty houses that I saved using this system. I saved them, and after I reinstalled the game, I put those files back into export...but they don't show up anywhere. Am I putting them in the wrong folder?

The .sims3packs need to be put in your downloads folder to install them back into your game.  After you have moved them there, just use the launcher to install.  Then keep copies of them somewhere for safekeeping.
