Consistent freezing upon checking the mail

My game has been running quite slowly lately, and freezing when I direct a sim to check the mail. The sim will pull out the gift box and then freeze. I'm pretty sure whatever's in the mail box is what's causing my game to go slow and crash. Will deleting the mailbox and getting a new one get rid of whatever's inside? Have any of you guys dealt with a similar situation? :-\

The gift box.

This sounds like the "omni" plant glitch.  My current sim now has in excess of 30 of these in her personal inventory!

Have you tried sending the sim back to the mail box immediately she/he freezes.   I have found my sim always freezes when one of these things arrives, but can collect the rest of the mail afterwards without a problem.

I'm not sure that the slow functioning is related though.  I haven't noticed any slowing of my games.

Slow function could be caused by a stuck sim somewhere in your town.  Try resetsim " in the cheats menu to see if that helps.

Other than this, I am sorry, I can't think of anything else.

The only thing I can add to Wai's comment is that I've stopped having my Sims check the mailbox because I got tired of their inventories filling up with omni plants.  It's a nuisance because they can no longer smelt metals, but it's all I can think of to do until EA fixes the problem.  Unfortunately, my travelling Sims still wind up with omni plant boxes because they automatically collect the mail when they return home, but at least we can avoid most of the things.

Yeah the mailbox was stuck with Omni plants, but my sims never freeze upon checking the mail. I ended up having to evict them and bulldozed the house after saving a copy and replacing it. It wasn't that big of a deal as the wishes my sims were promised weren't going to yield much LTW points. To get rid of the omni plants I now use Twallan's/Nraas  Master Controller mod and just sell the item. It works like a charm and my sims no longer pass down the dreaded gift boxes from generation to generation.
