Building Non-Active Households
« on: January 26, 2013, 07:59:31 PM »
I built a house for a Sim that I added to my game, but who isn't part of my active household. However, I forgot to add stairs to his house... so he can't get in and is getting really smelly and hungry and stuff. How do I go back and edit his house?

Press and Hold Ctrl+Shift+C. Type "testingcheatsenabled true", press enter. Next, go to the inactive household's lot, and Shift+Click on the ground. Select "Build on this Lot". Build, then return to Live Mode, press Ctrl+Shift+C, type "testingcheatsenabled false" and press enter.  There are other, non cheating ways to do it, if you don't like cheating, but this is the fastest way.

Poor Sim!  That's kind of funny though!   ;D

While you're in edit town mode, you can switch your active household to the this Sim's household (its one of the buttons that appear under the pop up description of the house./family when you click on the house) and then you can put in the staircase.  Then you can switch back to your main household.  It will mean that you will lose wishes/opportunties of your current sim, though.

But I do this all the time--switch back and forth from family to family, edit houses even if they are not active families, etc.

You could also go to edit town, evict the sims in the household, build on the lot and move them back in, presuming they still have the funds after the addition.
