Question about celebrity status

I have Pets and Seasons and Im thinking of buying Late Night, but I was wondering if sims can only get celebrity status when they are in the acting/director careers. Can Sims also get celebrity status if they are an superstar athlete, 5 star chef, author, or a hit movie composer?

Sims get celebrity status through literally everything and through every career (or lack of it).

Yes, Sims can get celebrity status without being in a job. You can meet a celebrity and become friends with them to get stars, no job is required. Celebrity status is the focus of acting and directing, but your Sim can get to level 5 just by marrying a famous Sim.
