In a bad thunderstorm horses can not only be startled but end up in a panic from the thunder.  I've taken to moving them into the barn and locking the barn door during storms.  So my sim then doesn't get soaked trying to calm them down.  I liked the realism for this.

My sims' dog gets startled by the lightning as well. If he's awake, he'll stop what he's doing to react to it.

I've also seen him playing in the leaf piles. It's adorable!

I have two cats in my house and the last time it stormed one of them got startled and had the option to Hide Under the sofa rather than Explore Under.  I don't know if that's always been there but was very appropriate.

They can play in a leaf pile? Argh, I missed that. Gotta rake one up next autumn and see what my pets do with it.
