Various Seasons problems
« on: November 18, 2012, 06:33:12 PM »
Just installed Seasons and am having the following problems:

1.  Playing a happily married couple with a child.  At least every five minutes, and sometimes every minute or two, I get a popup asking if one or the other of the adults wants to go out on a date with someone.  I don't really mind that my married couple is being invited to cheat on spouses, but it's incredibly annoying to have these constant, unwanted interruptions.  Can't find an Option to turn this off.

2.  The wife in this couple is a level 10 professional gardner.  During the initial summer, she had a large, very productive garden.  After going through the fall/winter/spring seasons, when the garden came out of dormancy and turned green again, most of the plants have been non-productive.  If I hover over a plant, its growth state says 'Harvest', but there is no produce visible, and if the plant is clicked there's no Harvest action available.  Some pumpkins are producing, but even if 'Harvest' is clicked for them, nothing else gets harvested.

3.  Game crashes constantly which never happened before.  Now have to save about every 5 minutes to ensure not losing too much.  I don't have any non-official content.

Any help, especially about the garden and crashing, would be appreciated.  Thanks.

I don't have any help, but mine starting crashing with Seasons too, and I still haven't figured out the problem.  Worse for me is that I uninstalled Seasons, but now can't run my other games--SN and Pets which ran fine before, are now crashing.   (I have a thread on this crashing issue, too).

If we figure anything out, I'll let you know.

I have the bugged-at-harvest problem too. Got rid of the affected plants, which cost me about half my garden so I'm not a happy camper. As far as I can tell, it started when cold autumn weather caused the plants to go dormant. It's spring now and the affected plants have not "recovered", plus some I kept indoors during winter are affected as well. Is your gardener a fairy? Mine is, and she liberally used Bloom. Though I do suspect it is caused by the weather, not by that.

During play, my game doesn't crash/freeze more than before, but I have freeze-when-saving problems at the moment. It's somehow related to build/buy mode -- if I try to save after building a second level for my house, it freezes without fail. Never had that before, and it's immensely frustrating because it basically makes that game unplayable.

Issue #1:  There's no way to turn these off.  I resorted to silencing my sim's phones.

Issue #2:  This was a reported bug for Seasons.  Something about when Seasons initiated the new cycle with plants going dormant, etc., some plants get stuck.  I believe this only effected plants that existed when Seasons is installed and doesn't effect those that are planted after.  I actually use a mod (Overwatch) that corrected this so it didn't actually happen to me.

Issue #3:  There's a mod I use called ErrorTrap from Nraas/Twallan - you can read about it in the Game Modifications forum if you choose.  It's main purpose is to prevent game crashes and corrupted save games.  I started using Twallan's mods with Late Night when my game would lag more and more the longer I played in Bridgeport.  Found out it was the cars and his mod Overwatch fixed it (amongst other things).  If you're interested in a more stable game, check out the Game Modifications forum.  Do your homework, ask questions - everyone here is pretty friendly and helpful.  EA is great (I love my Sims!) but they aren't perfect and crappy code gets through.  It's not always a priority for them to fix the little things quickly when they're working on other content coming out as well (and we love the content!).  Responsible modders help pick up the slack.  I'd consider Twallan one of the most responsible and reliable modders out there.  I see responsible modders as 'volunteers' helping the cause - which is to make our games run reliably.

Remove the Sim's Online Dating Profile on a computer (everyone has one).

Can you please upload the .mdmp file of the most recent crash to this thread? It's located in Documents/Electronic Arts/The Sims 3. It has an extension of .mdmp and it includes a date in the filename. If you don't feel comfortable uploading it, there's an analyzer here, but it only works for Windows machines.

Dellena, I get issue #2 with a brand-new game. How did Overwatch fix it for you? I always run that one too but it hasn't done anything for my plants.

I'd have to look back through the revisions but I think he made it so Overwatch would correct the plants that weren't correctly converted.  I could be wrong.  I've noticed that when I plant anything inside my greenhouse in winter, the plant is dormant on the first day but then starts growing on the second day.

No it's Debugenabler. I reset my plants to what stage I want with it. Click on the plant and bebugenabler allows you to water, weed, set next lif stage or make a dead plant alive. It was essential when living in a high rise in Bridgeport, since the plants were not part of the "active household" (i.e. being outsiide in community property.

Yes, I downloaded DebugEnabler yesterday for that reason and it works. Whew, garden saved. I'm glad I had not thrown all the buggy plants out again yet. About a third of them were affected.
