Selecting a Season
« on: November 18, 2012, 01:42:05 PM »
When starting a brand new game, is there any cheat that lets you select the season to start with? As far as I know right now no matter what you start with Summer and you have to at least wait 3 Sim days for it to pass to the next season. I know you can go into Options and select/unselect seasons and weather and choose duration and all that, but my question is - if I don't want to go through a minimum of 3 days of Summer, is there a cheat to select the season and have it immediately be that season? Thanks!

And I apologize if I am repeating this question, I didn't see it asked by anyone else yet but you never know...  ::)

If you are in your sims household or community lot, you can shift/left click on the ground and you will have options for seasons, temperature, duration, etc.  However it only works with testingcheatsenabled on.

Awesome, thank you. I figured there had to be a way. I'm just impatient plus considering that before Seasons came out, the environment was always summery, I'd like to skip it for now.

If you change the season once you've started a new save file, it'll take a couple of days to switch over. But if you change it in the main menu it'll start in the first selected season. Eg, I wanted to start a game in winter, and it wouldn't work if I did it once in game, but if it was set from the main menu the game started in winter. Having said that, the settings you change from the main menu will affect all other new games you start, so switch them back to normal once you've got your game set up. (I don't think I explained that very well, so lemme know if it doesn't make sense).

Somewhere in another thread, someone mentioned that you could also go into the Options menu (while in the game/playing your selected family -- NOT the main menu), disable all of the seasons other than the one you want to start with. Then, when you play, you should experience just one day of summer and then it'll roll into whatever season you wanted to start with. After that, go ahead and enable all of the seasons you wish and the game will cycle through them in order from that point onward. Hope that helps!

I know that in Edit Town you can click on what seasons and types of weather you want.  Also shorten the time and it affects all games, even ones that I have been playing.

I set mine to be 15 days in Fall, 25 for Spring and Summer and Winter at seven. I keep and will keep changing until I find the set length I like.  I disabled the rain and planning on doing so with fog, decided I don't like fog.  No more rain messing up the days.  Sims couldn't go out and gather it rained so much, and temps were so low in Fall they kept showing the cold moodlet.
Strange, the temps I have don't fit the season; of what they should be;  fall had 30s day 20s night and now in Winter temps are mid 50s day and 30s night.

I had, as I call it, an idiot moment in stating it was Edit Town, and mixed up some of what I wanted to say.

In options, you can change what is in a season, such as rain, snow and such, clck to delete them.  This will work for any game after you have clicked it.  You can, I believe, also set it to have the only seasons you want, such as no winter or spring all of the time.
For games that have already been started, they have to be changed individually.
I haven't tried the cheats to see if I can change the setting for temps, level of snow and such, although I think that would be nice to be able to do.

Hope what I said this time is clearer.

If you save a game with a particular set of weather settings, it will never effect another save game.   Weather settings are per save file.  So you can have a family in Sunlit Tides that never sees Snow, another family in Sunset Valley with 12 day seasons, and a third family in Riverview that only ever sees autumn.

If you want to start a particular way in a file, I always go into option before starting the new game and turn off all but the season I want then start the new game.  Just remember it will be like for all new games if you don't change it.
