Wind & Hail.
« on: November 28, 2012, 05:57:00 AM »
I feel silly here but... I'm guessing, wind is noticable only if you have ambiance sounds on? I have those turned off and while the trees move a little bit (bushes as well) I've never really noticed 'wind' at all in my game.

For that matter, I've never seen hail either - just light rain, heavy rain, lightning, snow and sun.

Could anyone upload a picture of what this 'hail' looks like in-game? I'm curious.

Hail is much rarer in the game, I've only had one hailstorm so far.

I noticed the wind the most in the swamp in Twinbrook because the swamp grasses blow around a lot. I like it though, gives it atmosphere.

Hail pretty much looks like rain but when it hits the ground you get the hail stones bouncing about like this (courtesy of the climatron control unit)

That isn't very heavy but i've had a couple of quite heavy hail storms, rescued this poor little critter from one, he was hiding under a tree in my garden. Although I don't think the weather really bothers animals, my horse certainly doesn't care, but I felt sorry for him being out in it.

I've noticed the wind a bit during heavy storms but not much otherwise. I do like the little touches though, it's not just weather effects, the world gets altered with it like stuff moving in the wind, rain in the hot tub, frost on the windows. So far i'm impressed with how intergrated it all is.

EDIT: I just used testing cheats to make the wind stronger, the climatron doesn't alter wind, trees and stuff do move more but there's nothing really extreme about a heavy wind, but it is a bit more noticeable.

How did you go about altering the wind via cheats? Or you mean TCET, and then clicking the mailbox or floor to alter the weather/wind?

ETA; Thank you for the screenshots! Now I know what to look for, haha, and cute little critter.

Yes, testing cheats enabled true, then click the ground there is a seasons menu, you can control the weather with that.

I've had incessant hail! Sent my witch to the "Weather God" (or whatever he is called), and changed it to "bewitching rain".

That's the weather stone, it's just added features for Supernaturals, hail can be controlled with the weather controlling unit.

Before I turned off the rain option, the only way I knew it was windy (more than normal) was the sounds; the branches, leaves and bushes seemed to move more, but not a lot.  We get a lot of wind here where I live and the sound was pretty realistic.
Hail is very similar to rain, the only way I was able to tell the difference was by watching it hit the ground, you can see the little balls of hail.  And how long; the hail storms are like what we have here, suddenly show up and then just as quickly gone.
I haven't gotten that much hail, not like the rain, I was fed up with more rain days in summer and fall than clear ones.  So I took out that option and fog and left hail and snow, but left winter at 7 days.
I have yet to reach Winter and Spring, have been bringing up my other towns games to date.
