From what I have heard, the new visible skills are snowboarding and soccer/ football. I think skating and snowmen are hidden. There may be more, but I haven't heard about them yet. I don't have the game, but that is what I have heard.

From all the previews i've seen there's snowboarding, horseshoes, skating, rollerblading that all have skill bars even if they're hidden skills. Are you counting the pool diving off the diving board too?

Water balloon fighting causes a hidden skill bar to appear over a Sim's head too.

Since the patch - you can see a skill bar for witch spells and werewolf levels.  Plus for most of the ones I've seen in the new xpac.   Soccer is attached to the athletic skill so I'm not sure it has it's own skill bar or is just progressing that particular one.

I asked a question on twitter to sims 3 about the ice skating and snowboarding.  They are not a visible skill or a hidden skill but somewhere in between is what they said.

Somewhere between? Wonder how Twallan will fix that in his mod that makes those skills visible.
I have no idea what this somewhere in between may mean. For me it is simple, if you can train it and it shows up in your skill journal it is a skill regardless if there are challenges involved or not.
If you howevervcan train it up to level 10 or below but it isn't written down in the journal it is a hidden skill.

Saying that, every registered skill in the journal goes up to ten as it max. Maybe that's a mark as well.

All of the new skills have a highest level of three or five I believe.

Okey, up to now I have gotten a lot of speculation in this topic. Although that is interesting I though want to ask you guys that you only reply when you are certain of a sudden skill. Pictures will be welcome too. Actually, they will be more than welcome.
So, no more speculation from now on.

Thanks in advance! :)

Unfortunately, speculation is all many of us have at the moment and it's likely based on everything that has been released by EA prior to today.  So, it still has some value for awhile.  Carl will be covering the new skills in the Guide soon, so we all have to be patient while he is playing and writing.

Well, my sim just finished skating at the park, and she had a skill bar over her head, and there were notices about how she is coming along. But there isn't anything under the skills tab. So I assumed it's hidden. My sim can skate backwards, and do some pretty cool spins. I have some pics that I will post tommorow.

Several of these function like dancing in Late Night. Your Sim will appear better at it and perhaps have more fun and get moodlets. There's nothing too deep here so when I get to them, they'll ultimately all share the same page. We didn't get a traditional skill with this EP. These skills' use is largely to have fun, but you can get better to defeat other Sims more often and win more Festival Tickets to exchange for prizes. One that is not really a hidden skill is your Sim's performance in the pie/hot dog eating contests. As you compete in more of them over time, the Sim gets better and will be more likely to win (seen in game code).  You'll get 25 for winning, 5 for losing. One that Sims do not get better at (it seems) is apple bobbing. You'll win tickets for a victory but can't improve.

What I know about actual hidden skills:
Soccer is an easy way to score tickets - 25 for the winner, 5 for the loser. 10 each for a draw.
Skating (ice/rollerskates) gets you 5 tickets just for doing it. Either/or uses the Skating skill.
Water Balloon Fights/Snowball fights earn 25 for the winner, 5 for the loser and share the same hidden skill.
Diving - not involved in Festivals but it seems Sims will perform better dives.
Snowboarding - haven't yet done it but I see it's 5 tickets for participating if you do this at a Festival.

You can see pics of several of these in action (no snowboarding) on the Seasons Summer Guide.

When I make the page for all these, I'll determine the max skill levels and any traits that affect performance. Given you see all the Ticket rewards there, they seem to have been implemented with that purpose in mind. Sorry, no Soccer championship lifetime wish for us.

Nice Rica! I am mostly curious about the snowboarding. It seems like Sims has finally meet SSX. Look at him go, high in the sky. 'I can see my house from here!'
