My Sims won't paint portraits of toddlers!

It works for children, teens, and so forth perfectly fine, but if I tell them to paint toddlers, they just let me take the picture, turn to the canvas, and the action disappears. As I'm doing an immortal dynasty, this is really, really frustrating! And they won't do it in my other saves either, so I'm pretty sure a reset or a little move of the canvas won't help.

Are you using the same painter and the same easel for the children and teens that you're using for the toddlers?  It sounds like you've already tried restarting the game.  Have you tried deleting the easel and buying a replacement?  Go ahead and try ResetSim, too, just in case.

Yes about the painter, and I tried two different easels, and rotating the easel so that it's not diagonal. Could the easel being in a basement be a problem? And she's been able to paint two portraits at this easel perfectly fine, just not the toddler's portrait.

I'll try resetting them both, though.

When you get to level 8 as a painter, you can use the cell phone to "memorize scene". Take a picture of the toddler with the cell phone, then at the easel, click on "paint from memory."

I think that I'd need to get Metro's approval on that, this being the immortal dynasty. Great idea, though!

Are you getting the toddler to actually come to the easel and pose for the portrait?  When you said the easel is in the basement, I started to wonder because toddlers can't navigate stairs.  Your painter and toddler need to be on the same level of the house.

Yep, I had the painter carry it down the stairs. Someone on the dynasty thread suggested that I just quit and re-enter, though, and that did the trick!

Oops, sorry.  I should have suggested that.  I guess your initial post sounded like it happened multiple times and I just assumed it was over more than one play session.

Yea, quit and restart. That's the end-all solution. I really do not like doing that, but it's the only option. I feel your pain: I was trying to paint a still-life of my legacy kids and the father(Jon Lessen), just dropped the action. I blame the new patch. Why is it that every patch that is supposed to FIX things BREAKS more things!?
