Sculpting object failure missing resource
« on: July 12, 2012, 03:41:19 AM »
I have a problem where there seems to be a missing resource from one of the latest objects added to my game - it has to be one that is available to sculpt. I'm not sure if it's one from showtime, or a store object included with lucky palms. In game it shows up as a red flashing box.  What I'm wondering is, if anyone else has seen this or if an important resource got removed when I decrapped it and added it to my .package file?

Package frameworks for store content are notorious for malfunctioning.

To determine whether it's Showtime or your store content, you can take the .package file out of wherever you keep it, load a clean game and see if the problem disappears. If it does turn out to be Store content, then try installing it through the launcher and see what happens.

The trouble is the randomness of getting a particular sculpture. I have no idea what it was that my sim was supposed to be sculpting. I didn't write down the resource number. If I see it again I will, and then I should be able to do a search for it in Sim3pe or with Notepad++. Otherwise, it could take forever to find out what it was!

Did your sim finish the sculpture? If it did, you could check its sculpted items for the one that doesn't load right.

How do you check a sim's sculpted items? So far I have managed to do it again, and dicovered that it is an OBJD resource, and a base game file. The resource is 319e4f1d:00000000:0000000000000000 -(according to this tutorial on resource names)

Anyone? Where can I check my sim's sculpted items? If I could do that it would be so much easier to work out what I need to fix.

I'm guessing that the object is included in the sculpting_data _xml, but it doesn't have the sculpting info in it's OBJK file? Either that or when the object got packaged the game fails to recognise it now, so the reference between the sculpting_data and the object is broken?

Re: Sculpting object failure missing resource - FOUND!

I may have found at least two of my red boxes (I'm assuming I had multiple missing items). Going through the list of sculptures, there are two that are specific to the Ultimate Career Bundle (registration pack for Ambitions). I have put those in my game, now to wait and see if the red boxes show up again. I had a red box show up during my testing, but unfortunately my game froze before I could save it and see if it was replaced with either of those two sculptures when I went back into the game.

I have also just gotten a missing resource white box (the same resource number as you) after installing lucky palms. When my sim goes to play blackjack a white box coming up around her and the dealer. It goes away after each hand but it's really annoying. Do you know what I need to do?
It always seems impossible until its done.

I believe this is a slightly different problem - similar to the other premium content issues. There is a fix for it at MATY

Is there possibly a solution that doesn't include a mod?  We don't want a mod to be the first answer if there's something else.

If fixing this is just replacing the ccmerged.package, then it's not a modification because it's replacing a package created by the game that sometimes isn't created right. I think the matter of the ccmerged.package was agreed on not being a mod in the MultiTab 6000 thread. It was established that whether you download one that works right or do a factory reset and make your game regenerate it, it still works. Joria noted here that she was able to get exactly the same results by regenerating her ccmerged.package file as everyone who used the other method did. It's not a mod because all mods must alter some component of EA Standard gameplay.

However, the store fixes that Chuckles linked to are a mod. I suspect that they are the only way to solve the blackjack missing resource bugs without reinstalling Store content. I would try doing a factory reset, reinstalling Lucky Palms and seeing if the white box goes away. Failing that, a total reinstall may be the only option. If I knew the cause I could probably be of more help, but I've never actually had missing resources in my game.

Trust me, mods are my last option because I have to remove them from my game folder when I'm working on challenges, and that gets tiresome. I'd rather have no mods, but sometimes it makes gameplay much more enjoyable while you wait for EA to fix the bugs... If you only use the part of the download that contains the ccmerged.package you should be fine. I think even the file for if you have decrapped your premium items only contains the stuff that was removed when they got decrapped, though I can't be as sure about that one.

So you're saying the the ccmerged.package should fix the missing object resources? If so, then that's not a mod, although it's still a download-at-your-own-risk thing. Reloading store content should fix it.

That should fix the problem if the blackjack table is not decrapped.

If it's decrapped, then the other file is needed. I guess it depends on the user which works out easier for them. I wouldn't reccommend KT's store fix if I thought it wasn't trustworthy. I'd err on the side of caution though and not use the decrapped fix in challenges, though honestly there is nothing in there that provides any advantages - just fixes stuff that gets broken if you chose to install it a certain way without the launcher (this is the way I do most of my store content, but some stuff I do through the launcher to avoid this kind of problem). Looking in S3PE most of it looks like the bits that get taken out when you decrap, but lumped into one package. Someone with more modding experience could tell you for sure - or maybe if you wanted to know more you could ask on the thread where it is uploaded at MATY.
