Help with CAP
« on: October 20, 2012, 02:22:04 PM »
I'm not sure whether or not this is in the right section but as it relates to wall styles, I hope someone can help me.

I downloaded CAP today. I work in a combination of PhotoShop and Gimp, and I really wanted to try and create some decent wall patterns, specifically old brick walls covered in creeping vines.
This is what I wanted it to look like more or less:

This is what I got after taking it from Gimp into CAP:

Now I have a few questions:
How can I create a pattern that fills an entire wall without splitting like that? I don't mind the trunk section of the vine since that was designed for the foundation section of the wall and comes out okay. My problem is, I don't want vines up the entire wall in some places. Ideally I would like to create a pattern that shows the vines climbing the wall and then tapering off in some places and not in others. Obviously these would have to be separate wall sections, but how do I get it to taper off before the repeating tiles start on a SINGLE wall section? These screenshots were taken in-game to see if I could make a single wall section.

I'm basically looking to create a mural of sorts, but I'm not sure how to do it using the grid in CAP. Help would be much appreciated.

Hi Louise.

Thanks for the link, but I've already read that guide. Unfortunately it doesn't help with what I would like to know.

Maybe you could try a different type of wallpaper? Different wall coverings, and different objects all have the pattern stretched and repeated differently.

To do a mural like wall you can use the wall covering that came with Late Night, can't remember the name of tho, it's grey on the bottom and top and black in the middle and each section can be changed in CAS. That wall covering is divided into 3 sections of 256x256. So you could take 3 different pattens and color each section to make a mural.
For your vine it would take 3 patterns. One for the bottom of the vine, one for the middle and one for the top.
I've experimented with making murals this way some using 3 sections of this wall for a total of 9 patterns needed to make them. Here's a couple I've done.

Hi grim. I guess this means I've got to go buy LN as I don't have it yet. Guess it will have to wait until then. I LOVE the horse mural. Absolutely stunning.

Chuckles, I tried different wall coverings. Unfortunately none of them manage to get it quite right. The flat wall with the vines is the closest I've come to how I want it to SORT OF look. I'm a bit disappointed by CAP because I'd really hoped to be able to design entire wallpapers and objects. But I'll make do. ::)
