More questions on moving families to another town
« on: September 30, 2012, 10:05:37 AM »
I have read the guide and all that I can find using search, but still have some questions.

I have some families saved in what I am guessing is the library bin.

1. They are families that I have deleted the games so are not current.  So is that a factor?   I am wondering if I can move them to a town that I have started.
2.  Such as the Jones family who I deleted from AP and want to move to RV.  Can that be done?
3.  I don't have their house, so what happens?  Can I pick out a house for them or does the program do so?
4.  What about children, I am figuring they will continue to age up but what about their traits, will they get ones added by the program?  Or will the baby/child/teen be stuck with what they have?
5.  Do I  have control over them (I hope not); and the current family, the one that I created for this game, does it affect them any?

I am hoping I can move old famillies to RV, some that have a child or baby to add some fresh faces to the game.  And future spouses of my sims offspring ;D
I have a family in SV that I would like to move to RV, keep the house and all and so I learned from the guide how to do that, but not the rest.

I think that is all of them.   Sorry for so many questions; but these keep popping up in my head of can I do this?

You can move any sims in your library bin to any town you chose. They keep their skills and the relationships in their active family; but lose all town relationships (neighbors, friends, etc.) .
In Edit Town in your new town, you can place them in any available house (provided they have the funds) and they will just be like any other NPC.

Thanks for the response.

I don't mean to sound dense, but NPC to me would be the mailperson, firefighter and such.  I can't play them.  Correct me if I am wrong.  *sigh* I guess I need to review all the info on the whos and whats of characters; townies and such.

So, I don't have to worry about families that are in my bin and I have deleted their town game.  I can still use them.

Also, not sure of this, but in the old family that I move in, do the kids grow up?  Such as in the Butch or Keaton family in SV.  It would be interesting to see what the kids are like when adults and I no longer have any control over their development.  What traits are given to them, if they do receive more traits.

Are they able to marry (or live with) another sim in the town?  I have some females who are single and I wonder if they would find "that special someone"   :)

Sorry to bother with more questions, I just like to know what to expect.

It's no bother with the questions, Janna.  That's why we're here.  :)

Do you have another thread where you're asking questions about moving families?  I ask because your subject says "More questions".  If you already have a thread for it, you should just add to it instead of starting a new one.

As for your questions:

1.  You are correct about NPC Sims being the mailperson, firefighter, etc.  On our Forum we call those Sims NPC and the other families that live around town are Townies.  So, the family you place into the new town would be like all the other Townies.

2.  Yes, you can still use families that are saved to your bin, even if their original town is deleted.

3.  The family you place in the town will age just like all of the other families, as long as you have aging enabled.  They will be given traits when they age up.  The game will assign them to the Sims.

4.  They will be able to marry, live with, and do anything else townie families do, as long as you have Story Progression enabled.

Thanks Pam,

I had labeled it as more questions due to several old posts (three or more months old) about the topic, but didn't answer the questions I had.  Wasn't sure if I should have revived the old ones or not; I had considered attaching them but not sure which was the best option.
They were the ones that the answers were in the guide; very helpful if moving a family that was intended to be played from one town to another, but didn't give the info I had been seeking.
That has been answered here.

It would have been fine to revive a topic if it's the subject of your question.  No harm done, though.  :)

Soory, I miss quoted and should have called them townies. Because to me they are NPCs (non playable characters), since you can't play them unless you chose to change families.
