I applied the patch and moved my glitched family to a new save game to rid myself of the zombies. Problem now is, I have the gardening glitch, which I definitely didn't have before the patch. I am so frustrated because I was really getting into this family when I started them, but the spawning zombies made the game grind to a halt. I thought I'd finally be able to get back to them, but this is going to make that impossible. I could just get rid of the garden, I suppose but that's not how I wanted this family to work.

That I believe is caused by the glitched library (where you save your sims to the bin and houses and community lots).
My dear boyfriend made a gorgeously huge house, he was so excited about the new sliding bookcases. So he saved his house after he put those in to the Library to move towns... and when he put it back down the sliding bookcase doors no longer worked. He was so frustrated. I tested it out on a 4x4 house with a bookcase door and had the same results so I'm assuming the Library is buggy.

Anyways point of my story is, the Library is really bugged out with more than just that, and everyone appears to be having the same trouble when they move Sims into the Library and move them into a new town.

For the gardening issue, try going to Buy Mode and moving the plants around the lot a little bit. I haven't had any issues after Patch 1.39, but that solved the gardening issue for me after installing Patch 1.36 (or whatever the previous one was called).

Hmm, do you think that would also address the fact that the "harvest" action in public spaces are also cancelled? I tried moving the family with and without their house, but no matter what I did, the gardening was glitched. I finally gave up on them and started the original fairy and witch sim in a new game without all their kids and skills, and starting anew. I might consider moving the plants around though, but I was wondering if you had also had that glitch when harvesting in the wild...otherwise I think this game is going to be lost unless I want to get rid of the garden.  :(

To be honest though, there were lots of things about the file that seemed to get worse and worse. Bonehilda started acting erratically, always taking food out of the fridge and setting it on the counters and floors. Every time one of my Sims tried to throw out food or other trash, they would get a routing error in front of the garbage pail for no apparent reason - when I replaced the garbage pail with a trash compacter, they would ALWAYS stop and shout at me where the garbage pail WAS, and then proceed to the trash compacter. It's disappointing to lose all the progress I made with them, but starting over has some appeal as well. It was just so frustrating because the male reached the highest witch and alchemy skill, at the top of the alchemy profession, and he only needed to learn 4 more recipes. My fairy woman was a level 10 fairy and gardener, and nearly to the top of the gardening profession. Hey ho!

I never had it in community lots or in the wild I think, but you could try the same thing anyways. Activate the "testingcheatsenabled true" cheat and then shift-click on the lot and click "buy here" (or something like that - I have the spanish version of the game ;) ). You can then move the plants and see what happens. It would be quite annoying having to move every plant on every community lot... but you could still do it if it works, and if you really want to keep the file.

Good luck!

I took the plunge and did a factory reset without saving anything.  All I have added to my game right now is some store content.

I started a brand new clean game, created a new Sim,built her a house in MF and since I was in a hurry I planted a garden for her with buydebug.  My gardening glitch is now fixed.  She can plant, tend and harvest.

Making needs static still depletes her magic meter. That seems to be a game glitch.

I only played long enough to see if she could garden and haven't hit a full moon yet so I don't know how the zombies will be.

On a side note, I'm so happy with myself. When I added store content back in I only added what I really use. My CAS loads content so much faster!!   Also I did not load Barnacle Bay or the swim flippers from that beach set.  I will no longer have townies running around in pirate hats, swim fins or those funky pirate boots they like to add to their swim wear outfits.
