Launcher Problem, "Can't connect to Origin" message
« on: August 25, 2012, 02:00:09 PM »
Even when I have Origin on, when I try to use my launcher I get the message, "Can't connect to Origin" and "Launcher not working, Windows is trying to find a solution".  Of course, it doesn't find a solution and everything just shuts down.  I've got my game on automatic update and I check Origin for updates so not understanding why this problem now. New bug?  Old bug?
What?  Grannies can't play games?

I've had this once before, it went away on it's own, can't remember how long it took, a few hours or a day or something like that. It's probably just Origin itself that is having the problem, maybe they are doing maintainence or something.

Edit: Have you tried startng the launcher with Origin off? Also in the Technical Help section on these forums, there is a sticky thread by Pam with instructions on how to to launch your game without the launcher. Sometimes my launcher doesn't load so I use that method instead, it works, try it. Here's the link:

It's been happening a lot to me since the last patch, but no idea if that's a bug or just a coincidence. My Origin is also updated and everything but I still get that message pretty much everytime I use the launcher. I don't get any "Windows is trying to find a solution" message though, I just click on "OK" or whatever and everything's fine.

You could try skipping the launcher?  :)

I really think it's a bug.  I've tried with Origina off, (my usual mode), and with Origin on.  Neither works.  But if I try several times it eventually opens properly.  Yes, I could play without the launcher but I wanted to delete some things from my downloads and you gotta have the launcher open to finish this after you delete them from your Sims3/Downoads files.  I'm trying to get rid of some patterns which, duh, really are CC!  Even the cool ones our forum members make show up  as CC and don't transfer well.

I've been having this bug - it's very annoying, as I can't download new objects. Does it just go away if you leave it? Because ways to fix it look long and complicated (and therefore annoying).

I still am having this problem.  I didn't know there was any fix for it.  I've done a factory reset but that did not fix that problem.  I click on my launcher.  Get the message.  Close it out.  Click on it again and usually, though not always, it will load properly with no message and I'm able to download.  It's a minor nuisance at this point but I'd still like to have a way to fix it or have it fixed by Origin or EA or whatever/whoever can do it.

I always get this message too and I just ignore it.  I never have any problem downloading new store items so I don't know what difference it makes if the game can't connect to Origin.  As far as I can tell, it makes no difference at all to my gameplay.

The message cannot connect to Origin appears, and it never adversely affects anything, so it's ignorable.

There is another origin update again today if anyone is reading this and still having problems.  Maybe it will fix some of the issues.

I'm having the same problem, except I have a Mac so it doesn't say the same thing.    I could go to the store's webpage, download items and still load them that way, but cannot connect via the launcher.

This started for me with the patch noted too.   I don't know if I feel like downloading the latest patch, though, because it looks like it is just for Supernatural, which I don't have.  Should I download it anyway and see if it will fix this problem?
